Going to District Speech Contest were Richard Baker and Kathleen Magor. With our great political tactics we elected Merlyna Faller and Gloria Schatz as our Varsity cheerleaders. April 28, we gave in honor of the Seniors a banquet that was out of this world. Our theme was Heaven on Earth. The banquet committee consisted of Cheryl Willits, Susan Faller, Charlotte Hershberger, Betty Koester, Karen Kersey, Vicki Metzger, Kathleen Magor, Nancy McCoy, Larry Nedrow, Cheryl Stephenson, Steve Stucker, Gloria Schatz, Merlyna Faller, Roberta Morehead, Elizabeth Steinman, and Paul Weaver. FFA members were Robert Bachman, Leonard Rieger, and Harold Yoesel. Elected to participate in County Government Day were Steve Colerick, Richard Baker, Charlotte Hershberger, Cheryl Willits, Teri Krumme, Chick James, Vicki Metzger, Kathleen Magor, Nancy McCoy, Larry Nedrow, Steve Steinbrink, Elizabeth Steinman, Paul Weaver, and Steve Stucker. With three months' vacation we came back in September as IT of Falls City High School. To start the year off smoothly, we elected Garry Watzke, President; Vicki Metzger, Vice-President; Kathleen Magor, Secretary; Elizabeth Steinman, treasurer; and Paul Weaver and Steve Colerick, Activities Committee. Our class sponsors were Mr. Leon Joy and Mr. Godwin. The following made the honor roll: Richard Baker, Charles Hoffman, Judy Huebner, Betty Koester, Kathleen Magor, Steve Steinbrink, Garry Watzke, Larry Watzke, Cheryl Stephenson, Sharon Zorn, and Steve James. Participating in the Peru Scholastic Contest were Cheryl Stephenson, Chick James, Larry Watzke, Garry Watzke, John Luebs, Roy Rieschick, Richard Stumbo, Dianne Arnold, Merlyn Witt, Richard Baker, Steve Stucker, Karon Zorn, Sharon Zorn, Kathleen Magor, Vicki Metzger, Betty Koester, Charles Hoffman, and Gloria Schatz. Attending District Music Contest for the band were Dianne Arnold, John Davies, Charles Hoffman, Karen Kersey, Teri Krumme, Kathleen Magor, Ronald Sander, Steve Stucker, Claudia Tramm, Garry Watzke, Larry Watzke, Karon and Sharon Zorn. Band letters were received by Dianne Arnold, Charles Hoffman, Karen Kersey, John Davies, Teri Krumme, Vicki Metzger, Kathleen Magor, Nancy McCoy, Steve Stucker, Ronnie Sander, Claudia Tramm, Garry Watzke, Karon Zorn, and Sharon Zorn. Senior cheerleaders were Gloria Schatz, Charlotte Hershberger, and Vicki Metzger. GAA girls receiving awards were Dianne Arnold, Edna Davolt, Janet Franzen, Patsy Hilgenfeld, Charlotte Hershberger, Teri Krumme, Nancy McCoy, Janet Oliver, Cheryl Stephenson, and Elizabeth Steinman. Lettering in sports were Steve Colerick, football, basketball; John Davies, football; Wilbur Haws, football; Chick James, football, basketball; Ben Maze, basketball; Steve Stucker, football; Richard Stumbo, football; David Wickham, football; Paul Weaver, football. Under the direction of Mr. Robert Joy we presented our Senior Class play. Little Women. The cast included Kathleen Magor, Charlotte Hershberger, Nancy McCoy, Karen Kersey, Susan Faller, Larry Nedrow, Vicki Metzger, Paul Weaver, John Davies, and Richard Baker. Elizabeth Steinman was chosen as Miss Falls City by her senior classmates to represent Falls City in the Hiawatha Halloween Parade. Her attendants were Vicki Metzger and Gloria Schatz. On April 27, in honor of the seniors, the Junior Class gave a wonderful banquet as our going away gift from the sacred halls of FCHS. This outstanding book which you now possess was compiled by the Orange and Black Staff which were Mary Bierman, Steve Colerick, John Davies, Susan Faller, Charles Hoffman, Patsy Hilgenfeld, Charlotte Hershberger, Chick James, Karen Kersey, Teri Krumme, Vicki Metzger, Larry Nedrow, Janet Oliver, Steve Steinbrink, Cheryl Stephenson, Joyce Stewart, Elizabeth Steinman, and Garry Watzke. We all take great pleasure in thanking Mr. Leon Joy for his help in making this book a great success. Our class motto was To the stars through difficulties. The class flower was the chrysanthemum and our class colors were white and gold. May 17 was the last day of our wonderful years at FCHS. Yes, Senior Class Day — a day never to be forgotten as long as we live. Baccalaureate Services were held on May 26, and Commencement Exercises were held on May 28. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY The day we had long been waiting for, September 3, 1959, we entered FCHS as Underdogs; that is, Freshmen. We immediately organized our class by choosing as our officers Larry Nedrow, President; Vicki Metzger, Secretary; Charlotte Hershberger, Treasurer. To represent our class in activities, we chose Steve Colerick and Teri Krumme. To prove our intellectual ability, the following brains of the class made the honor roll: Dennis Arnold, John Auxier, Richard Baker, Charles Hoffman, Judy Hueb-ner, Chick James, Betty Koester, Darrell Kopf, Kathleen Magor, Cheryl Stephenson, Steve Stucker, Betsy Smith, Gloria Schatz, Merlyna Faller, Elizabeth Stein-man, Merlyn Witt, Garry Watzke, and Larry Watzke. Those attending the District Music Contest at Peru were Dianne Arnold, Steve Colerick, Cheryl Willits, Charles Hoffman, John Luebs, Vicki Metzger,, Kathleen Magor, Nancy McCoy, Steve Stucker, Merlyna Faller, Glenda Schmidt, Ronnie Sander, Karon Zorn, Sharon Zorn, and Sheryl Grush. We left for three-months' vacation, but were eager to enter again in August, only this time a step higher — Sophomores. We immediately chose our officers: President, Paul Weaver; Vice-President, John Auxier; Secretary-Treasurer, Charlotte Hershberger; Activities Committee, Ben Maze and Larry Nedrow. Amony the future Einsteins were Richard Baker, Larry Griffiths, Judy Huebner, Patsy Hilgenfeld, Chick James, Betty Koester, Darrell Kopf, Kathleen Magor, Larry Rider, Cheryl Stephenson, Steven Stucker, Betsy Smith, Claudia Tramm, and Garry Watzke. Also, these little Einsteins proudly represented us in the Peru Scholastic Contest: Richard Baker, Cheryl Willits, Patsy Hilgenfeld, Charlotte Hershberger, Chick James, Betty Koester, Darrell Kopf, Kathleen Magor, Cheryl Stephenson, Steve Stucker, Merlyna Faller, and Garry Watzke. Going to All-State this year at Lincoln were Sharon and Karon Zorn. Although it seemed our brains outnumbered our brawn, we still had these contributing to athletics. Again we left for a three-month recuperation period before returning as semi-wheels. Back for the third lap of the race which began in August, we chose our class officers. Those best qualified for the offices were President, Larry Nedrow; Vice-President, Chick James,- Secretary, Charlotte Hershberger; Treasurer, Elizabeth Steinman. We also elected John Auxier and Paul Weaver to the Activities Committee. Our class sponsors were Mrs. Kommer, Mrs. Lunsford, Mr. Roesch, and Mr. Peterson. Those faithfully contributing their smartness to the class by making the honor roll were Richard Baker, Patsy Hilgenfeld, Chick James, Betty Koester, Karen Kersey, Kathleen Magor, Garry Watzke, Larry Watzke, and Sharon Zorn. SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Well, here it is 1984, and we are still a democratic state despite George Orwell's prophecies. This is shown by the fact that ex-classmate Richard Baker is running for president on the Republican ticket opposed to Teddy Kennedy. As I am sitting in my old friend Garry Watzke's law office I happen to pick up the late issue of Time magazine and notice the advertisement on the back, which is for a distilling company run by an old pal Darrell Kopf; it seems that that chemistry experiment paid off. Sitting in Watzke's office is in itself a great honor, for Garry has set a new record by winning 99 straight divorce cases in a row. As I happen to look through the magazine more closely, I notice several more familiar names. In the People section I notice that Merlyna Faller Sailors was named Grandmother of the Year by the PTA, Cheryl Stephenson is still called the most eligible girl in the world, Kathleen Magor broke the bank twice in the same night at the Riviera, and that Gloria Schatz was Nebraska's entry in the Mrs. America contest. In the Show Business section I am not surprised to see that Charles Hoffman is the most acclaimed trumpeter since Louie Armstrong, and that Larry Nedrow is currently a big hit at night clubs all over the country. In the Business section I see an article about Ronald Sander, who I found out after reading the article is presently head of the Jeep Division of Kaiser Aluminum. There is also a short article about the largest service station in this part of the country run by no other than my old classmate Mike Strecker. The next section was? the Cinema section and was thick with old friend's names. Janet Franzen, Mary Bierman, and Joyce Stewart were in a new version of How to Marry a Millionaire, siren Nancy McCoy had taken the part of Delila in the forth coming movie Father of the Bride, for old times sake, she said. Liz Steinman, the most gossiped about actress since Liz Taylor, was going to Italy to make a super spectacular, and Charlie Maze had been called the greatest lover since Rudy Valentino. In the Art section I see that Cheryl Willets Ebel is the subject for an article, and in the Music section Claudia Tramm, who plays first French horn in the New York Philharmonic, is discussed at great length. The Sport section is also full of names I re- member. John Auxier is compared to Paul Hornung for his action in the NFL, John Luebs has won the bobsledding event for the U.S. at the winter Olympics, and that little Frankie Longacre claims to be the world's champion pool player. That finished the magazine and I picked up another. It happened to be, of all things, a Playboy and there was in it an article about their ideal playboy of the year, who was none other than my old buddy David Wickham; he hasn't changed much. As I read the article, I noticed another name that sounded familiar, that of Gary Ogle, David's most trusted chauffeur. When the writer of the article had asked David what he would like to do most, David answered, he would still like to have a date with Karen Kersey, who was now just another housewife in the suburbs. I had no sooner put the magazine down than Garry came out of his office, we shook hands and he suggested that we have lunch at a nice little place he knew. As we were riding down the main drag I saw a name that I knew sounded familiar and asked Garry about it. Yes, there it was in lights..........Larry Griffiths starring as HERCULES. Finally we came to the place where Garry had suggested we eat, a place called Deadwood, run by two of our classmates Carol DeLong and Josephine Smith. Yes, those two girls have come a long way from their carhopping days. While we were there, Steve Steinbrink came over and joined us. He is now head critic for the New York Herald Tribune. While we were sitting there talking, I thought I saw familiar faces on a TV commercial; I was right, Karon and Sharon Zorn are the Doublemint twins. As we ate our lunch and talked over old times, I asked about some of our old classmates and what they were doing now. Garry and Steve briefed me in completely. David Fritz had received the message and had started the Southside Bible Mission. Larry Watzke was teaching history at our old alma mater; he had taken Mr. Godwin's place. Teri Krumme was advertising swimming pools for Esther Williams. 22
