SENIOR CLASS HISTORY The first encounter of Kails City High School for 128 freshmen began on a gloomy September morning in 1954. Upper classmen were heard to remark that visibility in the halls was only a few feet due to the addition of so many new students. We elected the following class officers: President, Beryl Brown; Vice-President, David Wiltse; Secretary, Carol Tubach; Treasurer, Bob Person; Student Activity Committee, Jane Kunkel and Tom Brown. Freshmen on the Honor Roll were: Nancy Zimmer, Barbara Jahn, Marlene Wright, Jane Kunkel, Kathleen Stucker, Naomi Bedwell, Janyce Bullock, Marian Liebsch, Helen Arnold, David Sorenson, Carol Tubach, Alice Bachmen, Jean Wittrock, Barbara Witt-rock, Carolyn McNeely, Margaret Franklin, Donna Stephenson, Carlene Tisdel, Jean Tubach, Linda Bertram, Donald Helmick, John Deckinger, Jim Poage, Tom Brown, Richard Carlson, Bob Gibson, David Wiltse, Clinton Bletscher, Beryl Brown, Larry Curnes, John Sauer, Bob Person, and Richard Johnson. The District Chorus Contest at Peru was attended by Jim Poage, Marlene Wright, Elaine Scholz, Elaine Shouse, and Karen Friesen. Those attending District Band Contest at Peru were: Colette Reafs, Nancy Zimmer, Janyce Bullock, Carol Tubach, Jeannine Fryer, Sondra Oberst, Jean Tubach, Jean Wittrock, Myrtle Wells, Richard Carlson, Jane Kunkel, Cheri Drumm, Karen Friesen, Mary Stayton, Juanita Kersey, Anna W'elch, Bill Ernst, Donna Stephenson Mary Picton, Margaret Campbell, Carolyn McNeely, Barbara Cochran, Doris Simon, Linda Bertram, Bob Person, Clinton Bletscher, Elaine Scholz, Naomi Bedwell, Gail Gerlt, Barbara Jahn, Deanna Darling, and Suella Stalder. Elaine Scholz and Nancy Zimmer took their places as majorettes beside upper classmen. Many of the boys were active in sports, and Jim Poage won letters in both football and basketball. Colette Reafs was the only freshman on the Band Executive Board. Our first quarter was over, and we took a timeout for three months. September, 1955, brought a close to our rest, and we were again ready to pursue the three R's. Election of officers produced: President, Naomi Bedwell; Vice-President, Suella Stalder; Secretary, Elaine Scholz; Treasurer, Carolyn McNeely; Student Activity Committee, Sharon Gilbert and Janyce Bullock. The Honor Roll was upheld by Carol Tubach. Linda Bertram, Margaret Campbell, Sharon Gilbert, Verba Baker, Janyce Bullock, Carolyn McNeely, Naomi Bedwell, Helen Arnold, Jane Kunkel, Carlene Tisdel, Margaret Franklin, David Wiltse, David Sorenson, Marlene Wright, Barbara Wittrock, Marion Liebsch, Jean Wittrock, John Sauer, Bob Person, Richard Carlson, and Alice Bachman. Elaine Scholz and Nancy Zimmer were again our representatives in the majorette section. They both attended the Twirling Clinic. Those attending District Band Contest at Peru and Band Day in Lincoln as Sophomores were Colette Reafs, Carolyn McNeely, Donna Stephenson, Nancy Zimmer, Carol Tubach, Janyce Bullock, Elaine Scholz, Barbara Cochran, Mary Stayton, Suella Stalder, Karen Friesen, Myrtle Wells, Juanita Kersey, Sharon McCoy, Clinton Bletscher, Gail Gerlt, Doris Simon, Jeannine Fryer, Bob Person, Jean Tubach, Barbara Wittrock, Jean Wittrock, Mary Carol Picton, Margaret Campbell, Cheri Drumm, Linda Bertram, Sondra Oberst, Bill Ernest, Richard Carlson, Naomi Bedwell, Deanna Dari ing, Jane Kunkel, and Barbara Jahn. The trip to Peru for the District Choral Contest was made by Nancy Zimmer, Leota Clumpner, Jane Kunkel, Marilyn Hinz, Kathryn Collier, Sharon Gilbert, Elaine Scholz, Karen Friesen, Marlene Wright, Sharon McCoy, Carol Tubach, Naomi Bedwell, Barbara Jahn, Suella Stalder, Janyce Bullock, Carolyn McNeely, Elaine Shouse, Jean Wittrock, Mary Stayton, Barbara Cochran, Alice Bachman, Jean Tubach, Brenda Wiar, Terry Robinson, Richard Meinzer, Douglas Halbert, Benny Sickel, Bob Gibson, Jim Poage, Gerald Meinzer, Larry Curnes, Richard Carlson, Beryl Brown, David Wiltse, David Schatz, Larry Sailors, Bob Person, and Ralph Huettner. One of the most important events of the year was the winning of the Class “A” Basketball State Championship. Sophomores who aided in the victory were Jim Poage, Bob Gibson, Arvid Still, and Tom Brown. Representing us on the Band Executive Board this year were Janyce Bullock and Colette Reafs. The Band Clinic at Peru was attended by Janyce Bullock, Richard Carlson, and Bob Person. Sophomores on the Golf Team were David Wiltse, Bob Person, and Tom Brown. Football letters were earned by Beryl Brown, Tom Brown, Bob Person, and Jim Poage. Basketball letters were awarded to Tom Brown, Bob Gibson, Jim Poage, and Arvid Still. Those earning track letters were Bob Gibson, Ken Harper, Beryl Brown, and Pat Thomas. The end of this school year came quickly, but the end of our summer vacation came even more quickly. Entering Falls City High School again in September as lower upper classmen, we realized that half of our school career was over. Our sponsors for this year were Mrs. Lunsford, Mrs. Kammer, Mr. Hatch, Mrs. Kinkead, Mr. Eckman, and Mrs. Hahn. Those chosen as class officers were: President, Bob Person; Vice-President, Naomi Bedwell; Secretary-Treasurer, Elaine Scholz; Student Activity Committee, Deanna Darling, Harry Vohl, and Carol Tubach.
