SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Four years ago there came into the Falls City High School a new group of Freshmen, green and unaccustomed to the trials and tribulations of high school life. In this respect they were similar to those who had preceded them — but in others they were different and were immediately given the name of being one of the best and most unusual classes in F. C. H. S. To prove this fact, you need only to look further. Under the guidance of Coach Henderson and Mr. Carney, we elected as class officers Wayne Nanoman-tube, president; Dick Schock, vice-president; and Cor-ene Griffiths, secretary-treasurer. During this year Wayne Nanomantube lettered in both football and basketball. This was our most outstanding athletic event. We participated enthusiastically in various activities during our Freshman year and finished with a degree of success — we hope. After a short vacation of three months, the class, now as Sophomores, entered the portals of Falls City High School. Guiding us along the way were Mrs. Cummins, Miss Sheehan, and Miss Join, our class sponsors. As our class officers we elected Charles Kottich as president; Jerry Downey, vice-president; and Milford Kirkendall, secretary-treasurer. Sophomores on the student activity committee were Richard Adams and Wayne Nanomantube. Sophomore boys winning football awards were Ralph Ducy and Wayne Nanomantube. Wayne Nanomantube lettered in basketball. Dick Schock, Vernon Hunzeker, Dick Young. Wayne Nanomantube, Milford Kirkendall, and Bill Dorste received track awards. Cheering the boys on was Joan Pollard, who won a coveted position on the cheerleading squad. During this year many Sophomores took part in the District Music Contest at Auburn. Among them were Shirley Albright, Arleta Durfee, Alice Todd, Dick Schock, Carolyn Little, Elaine Henke, Corene Griffiths, Barbara Colbert, Mary Helen Krueger, Barbara Apel, Elaine Fryer, Dorothy Vaughn, Dolores Groff. JoAnn Joy, Bob Yanike, Charles Kottich, Dean Grantham, Elizabeth Ann Lunsford, Joan Pollard, Lou Rita Sanchez. Terry Vonderschmidt, Jim Shields, Barbara Randall, John Parrish, Richard Adams, Marilyn Schmutzer and Donna Preusse. The next year we walked into F. C. H. S. as upper classmen. Half of our high school career was over, but the best was yet to come. Our Junior class year was begun by electing the following officers: Eddie Huber, president; Alice Todd, vice-president; Keith Herbster, secretary; and Dick Schock, treasurer. Representing us on the student activity committee were Charles Kottich, Milford Kirkendall, and Wayne Nanomantube. Our sponsors for this year were Miss Jorn, Miss Sheehan, Mr. Hatch and Mr. Thomsen. On December 15, the Junior class play, “Tish,” under the direction of Miss Sukovaty, was presented with the following cast: Lou Sanchez, Joan Pollard, Alice Todd, Corene Griffiths, Barbara Randall, Charles Kottich, Dick Schock, Carol Diefenderfer, Terry Vonderschmidt, Carolyn Little, Bob Yanike, Wayne Nanomantube, and Marjorie Meyers. Elaine Henke acted as narrator of the play. Myron Shubert, Donald Stewart, Bob Kratz, and Richard Adams were the stage crew. Elaine Fryer was prompter. The girls earning their first state G. A. A. awards were Shirley Albright, Arleta Durfee, Peggy Eickhoff, JoAnn Joy, Velda Vogt, Beverly Hays, Barbara Randall, Joan Hopp, Joan Pollard, Gertrude Collier, Corene Griffiths, Glenda Zoucha, Lou Rita Sanchez, Donna DeRoin, and Alice Todd. We boasted of five awards in football. They were received by Wayne Nanomantube, Ralph Ducy, Dick Young, Jim Ankrom, and Dick Schock. Basketball letters were given to Dick Schock, Wayne Nanomantube, Vernon Huzeker, and Kenney Prater. Two of our classmates, Joan Pollard and Lou Sanchez, were elected cheerleaders. On May 4, 1951, the Juniors were hosts to the departing Seniors at the annual Junior-Senior Banquet. On September 4, 1951, we again entered F. C. H. S., now as lofty Seniors. To begin our final year, we elected Dick Young as president; Carolyn Little, vice-president; and Jim Shields, secretary-treasurer. The Seniors elected to the Orange and Black Staff were Dick Schock, Charles Kottich, Alice Todd, Bob Yanike. Jim Shields, Donna DeRoin, Carolyn Little, Lou Rita Sanchez. Barbara Colbert, Corene Griffiths, Joan Pollard, Barbara Apel, Glenda Zoucha, Keith Herbster, and Wayne Nanomantube. Joan Pollard and Barbara Apel were elected for cheerleading. Wayne Nanomantube was a fourth-time winner of a football award; Ralph Ducy, a third-time winner; Dick Schock, Jim Ankrom and Dick Young, second-time winners; with three new winners, Richard Adams, Ed Huber, and Bob Wadsworth. Carolyn Little was chosen as “Miss Falls City” at the Hiawatha Halloween Festival. The girls earning their second state G. A. A. awards were Shirley Albright, Arleta Durfee, Peggy Eickhoff, Glenda Zoucha, Joan Pollard, Lou Sanchez, Alice Todd, Donna DeRoin, Joan Hopp, JoAnn Joy, Velda Vogt, Beverly Hays, Barbara Randall, Gertrude Collier, and Corene Griffiths. It was our privilege to be the guests of the Junior class at the Banquet on May 3, 1952. Baccalaureate services were held May 18, 1952, and Commencement exercises were on May 22. The following day we returned to good, old F. C. H. S. for the last time to receive our report cards. This concludes our high school career. With joy and sorrow we turn to the future, always remembering those happy days in F. C. H. S. —Barbara Colbert
