JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY Most of us shall never forget that memorable day rn the fall of 1948 when wrth poundrng hearts and quakrng knees our Freshmen class entered for the frr st trme the portals of Falls Crty Hrgh School I can re member how on that frrst day we would shyly approach an upper classman and rnqurre trmrdly Where rs Room 2039 or Could you drrect me to the Trades Room please And of course we always recerved the tradltronal answer Sure Krd' Go down to the e d of the hall and take the elevator up to the fourth floor you cant mrss rt We soon drscovered however much to our drsapporntment that there was no elevator and no fourth floor Yes we mrght have been a lrttle stuprd at irrst but qurck to learn We have now completed three of our four years Journey over the road to Knowledge and wrth but few mrsgrvrngs I am sure Wrth the help of Coach Henderson and Mr Carney who had been appornted as travel gurdes for our Freshmen troop we elected offrcers to lead our class As presrdent we elected Wayne Nanomantube vrce presrdent Drck Schock secretary treasurer Corene Grrffrths and to represent us on the Actrvrtres Com mrttee we chose Garry Krrkendall and Kenny Prater Wayne Nanomantube provrng to be an equal wrth the upper classmen on the football roster won hrs frrst letter Later rn the year he added a second honor to hrs favor by letterrng rn basketball Many Frosh members took an actrve part rn the physrcal educatron program and rn chorus glee club band, and orchestral events durrng the year And numerous Frosh names were added to the honor roll rs Lorrarne Hamm represented our class well by brrngrng home a superror ratrng from the local speech contest at Peru In September of 1949 we agarn entered the doors of Falls Crty Hrgh as Sophomores We serged ahead belrevrng that all would be smooth sarlrng now that we were more acquarnted wrth thrngs ibut that was before we had been fully rntroduced to the subject of brology I We hadn t serged far however when rt was suggested by our Sophomore travel gurdes Mrss Shook Mrs Cummrns and Mrss Sheehan that we elect offrcers S to lead us thrs year we chose as presrdent Charlre Kottrch vrce presrdent Jerry Downey secretary treasurer Mrlford Krrkendall and Actrvrtres Conrmrt tee Rrchard -Xdanrs and Wayne Nanomantube Two of our Sophomore boys earned football au ar ds rn 1949 They were Wayne Nanomantube xx ho xx as also chosen all confer ence half back and Ralph Ducy Wavne added a fourth letter to hrs collectron by berng on the basketball letterman lrst Drck Schock Vernon Hunzeker Drck Young ll ayne Nanomantube Mrl ord Kukendall and Brllre Dorste rx ere aw arded track letters Joan Pollard was elected to represent our class as a cheer leader for the 1949 50 football and basketball seasons As Sophomores we agarn took a large part rn all extra currrcular actrvrtres the school offered And agarn numerous second year names were added to the honor rs After a three months rest perrod that ended rn September 1950 we once more took up our books and resumed our studres but as real upper classmen thrs year One of our frrst acts as Junrors was to nomrnate our class leaders Thrs trme we elected as presrdent Ifddre Huber, Alrce Fodd as vrce presrdent Kerth I-Ierbster as secretary and Drck Schock as treasurer Our Actrvrty Commrttee representatrves were Charles Kottrch Wayne Nanomantube and Mrlford Krrkendall Our sponsors were Mrss Jorn Mr Thomsen Mr Hatch and Mrss Sheehan Three new football lettermen were proudly added to our lrst besrdes thrrd trme wrnner Wayne Nanoman tube and second trme wrnner Ralph Ducy They were Drck Schock Jrm Ankrorn and Drck Young Drck Schock Vernon Hunzeker Kenny Prater and Wayne Nanomantube earned letters rn basketball Two of our classmates Joan Pollard and Lou San chez were elected as cheer leaders Many of the local hrgh school Junrors took part rn the county government campargn md out of the group thrrteen members were elected to offrce Frrst state G A A awards were presented to Sanchez Alrce Todd Joan Pollard JoAnn Joy Donna De Rom Barbara Randall Joan Hopp Cor ene Grrffrths Gertrude Collrer Velda Vogt and Beverly Hays Besrdes the physrcal educatron pr ogr am our Junrors partrcrpated rn the Drstrrct Musrc Contest at Auburn and other band and chorus events Agarn many Junror names were found on the honor roll lrst On December 15 1950 the Junror Class presented therr annual play under the drrectron of Mrss Sukovaty The play was entrtled Trsh It was a three act comedy tellrng the story of three old mards whose adventures rn the Southwest led them rnto one hrlarrous scrape after another The cast rncluded Lou Sanchez Joan Pollard Corene Grrffrths Brrb Randall Charlre Kot trch Drck Schock Alrce Todd Bob Xanrke Terry Von dcrschmrdt Carolyn Lrttle Carol Drefenderfer Wayne rsano r2lI1tl1lJ0 and Nlargorre Nleyers Elarne Henke acted as narrator of the play and the stage crew rncluded Myron Shubert Donnre Stewart Bob In
