Canteen opened m 1951 through the effort of our ACt1Vltl6S Commlsslon and the local VFW club was used and enJoyed by all However our routmes were strlct and the Job at hand took tlme and effort Tlme was small effort was seemmgly smaller but the Honor Roll st1ll boasted a good many Semor Sergeants Passes for the Halloween evenlng were lssued t0 tlavel to the Hlawatha Festlval Mxss Barbara Arendt was selected as Mxss Falls Cxty and we were as proud as could be when she was selected as Queen of the Festlval In her regal robes Barbara would turn any k1ng s head And that she d1d turnlng the heads members of the cast ln the the one act play Dark Wmd Elame Krondak journeyed to her second speech contest on March 30 after appearlng ln the State American Legion Natxonal Oratorlcal Contest held ln Norfolk March 22 She was one of the s1x fmallsts m the state contest At the Peru Declamatory Contest Elame entered the mterrupatnve poetry d1v1s1on All were recalled to the home front and army llfe Krondak Freshmen Hrstory We the Freshmen rookres had passed our re qurrements and were ready to Jorn the Great Army of Balls Crty Hrgh School Seotember 2 1947 we had come to the Inductron Center wrth our hopes hrgh and our credentrals rn perfect order so we thought We were soon put rn our place as new recrurts by Semor Sergeants We marched through our paces and froundered on the obstacle course tryrng to drscover room 102 on thrrd floor We moved up a rank almost rnstantly when we elected our commandrng ofrrcers Presrdent Gary Lemmon, Vrce Presrdent Kenneth Kreffer, Secretary Treasurer Janet Martrn, Student Actrvrtres ommrttee, Frank Falloon Tom Percell, Under the competent leadershrp of the two chrefs or staff Mr Carney and Mr Henderson Army lrfe agreed wrth us and found many green recrurts actrve rn Band Orchestra Choral Musrc and Physrcal Educatron Tough army football found one letterman Tom Percell, on rts squad To cheer on our one man team, cheerleader Barbara Arendt was selected from the Freshmen WACS 1Womens Ath letrc Corpsj Prrx ate Rrchard Wrckrser won a numeral rn Track, thus representrng our rank rn two sport actrvrtres Our manuals were badly worn by the end of our term as Freshmen prrvates but the large percentage of our class appearrng on the Honor Roll xsell re ssarded our efforts Sophomore Hrstory In the Fall of 48 the Sophomore class entered upon then second freld of battle, proudly drsplayrng tnerr new rank Prrvate 1st Class We had returned to the battlefreld wrth a long casualty lrst due to unavordable rterns such as movrng away and pro longed rllness Nevertheless we had garned new recrurts from other theaters of war and under the gurdance or our carnpargn leaders Nlrs Cummrns and 1VIr Anderson the recrurts soon supprenrented our osses Our new rank called for prestrge, and a new detarl of conrmandrng offrcers were elected, rncludrng Presrdent Frank Falloon, Vrce Presrdent, Robert Huettner, Secretary Treasurer, Carol Duey The Stu dent plus Prrvate lst Class Kenneth Kreffer The Army of Falls Crty Hrgh wasnt all drrlls and marches and actrve part was taken by our class rn the new Recreatron Program begun that year Yes, the class of 48 was certarnly a lst class group Junior Hrstory The same theater of war, Falls Crty Hrgh School found us back at our battle statrons and ready to prtch nr and frght A Junror corporal hurrredly read the drspatch from headquarters statron that we had only 18 months to frnrsh up our Job and attarn the lorg sought for vrctory Under orders from our Chrefs of Staff Mrss Fase, Mrss Shook, Mr Hatch and Mr Jones, we held a strategy conference and selected capable commanders to lead us to vrctory They were as follows Presrdent Barbara Wrltse, Tr easur er, Tom Colbert We showed the Army that thrs
