The underclassmen mar not have given too much thought to these things get, but the seniors know onlrj too well what tkeg must leave behind. For us there will be no more cut cards, government, or senior privileges. Most of all, as we walk down the aisle of Constitution Hall, we will realize that we will never again walk together as a class, I hope the JAGUAR will accomplish the difficult task of keeping alive the mmorics of this school gear for each of gou. Whenever gou open this book, I hope it will be as if gou were back at school again, listening to all the fmiliar sounds that made this school gear so memorable. On behalf of Miss Maupin, the staff, and mgs elf, I am proud to present to gou our gearbook, the ' 63 JAGUAR. Sincerelg, Mical Miller, Editor Page 6 w 2W t l c a i i o n At Falls Church High School we are fortunate in having a teacher who has achieved the difficult task of being both an exceptional instructor and a wonderful friend. All who know her have realized what a truly outstanding teacher she is. She possesses a warm concern for the person, and not just the student. Her kind encouragement and happy outlook on life have left us all better people. For this we respect and admire her. In recognition of her inspiration and encouragement, we dedicate the 1963 Jaguar to Mrs. Yvonne C. Fidalgo, our friend and teacher. Jordan Principal To the Graduating Class of 1963: You are about to reach a goal for which you have been working twelve years. I trust that these years have been valuable to you, and that the knowledge you have attained will serve you well throughout all the years that lie ahead. During these years, your teachers have been working with you to build your educational foundation, and you will continue this educational process throughout your lives. I am glad that so many of you are planning to continue your formal education in some manner, because I think that this will better equip you to make the most of your lives. Regardless of what your plans may be, however, if they are worth while, and if you are willing to work to attain your goals, I feel that each of you can be successful in this age of so many opportunities. You will find that your success in life will depend, to a large measure, as it has in school, on the amount of work that you are willing to do. Your teachers and I have enjoyed working with you during your high school years, and we all wish you the best of everything as you take your next step in life. Let us know if we can be of help to you at any time, and come back to see us. Sincerely yours, William H. Jordan Page 1 0 Mr. William H. Barrett Assistant Principal Mrs. Marie H. His intelligence, industry, and humor made him a well-rounded individual, yet he was always modest and sincere. Lewis showed the promise of becoming a fine man and of having a suc¬ cessful career, yet that promise is never to be fulfilled. Although his years were few in number, they gave enjoyment both to himself and to those who knew him. He contributed to and added to that which is life for us. The memory of such a friend can never be forgotten. Page 42 3n 5ttemoriam There are few of us here at Falls Church High School who were not touched by Kenlee West’s infectious good humor. Stu¬ dents and teachers alike appreciated his friendly manner and quick wit in the li¬ brary, the cafeteria, dramatics activities, Pawpiint work, Madrigals, or in class. His concern for all and for what he could do to help us will always be remembered. Kenlee West A fun-loving student, “Beeb” could al¬ ways inject a spark of life into something we thought was dull. Though a great tease, he was not lacking in those qualities that mark a good student: Scholastic ability and conscientious determination. His ability in science was particularly well-known, having won for him a first prize in the 1962 Science Fair. Intelligent, friendly, and sincere was the “Beeb” we knew; this is the “Beeb” we will not forget. In fulfilling its objectives, the S.C.A. acts as a stimulant and administrator of various activities sponsored by the student body or an in¬ dividual club or group. Early this year, a Student Handbook was published to aid new students. In October the annual magazine drive was run by the S.C.A. The goal was passed and $2,000 was made which went for needed materials within the school. In addition, the S.C.A. has sponsored the annual Sweetheart Dance and various club activities such as the March of Dimes Drive, work at the Cere¬ bral Palsy Center, and collecting for U.N.I.C.E.F. at Halloween. PRESTON Keyette Keyettes have ended the year ’62-’63 witlr one of the best service records ever achieved by this club at Falls Church. Sue Hopkinson, as presi¬ dent, led the girls in many worthwhile commu¬ nity and school projects. Their year began with UNICEF collections with the Key Chib, a food and toy drive, and a rollicking " barbeque.” The year also included other helpful projects: Cerebral Palsy and March of Dimes drives, and a healthy twelve mile hike! Finally, in March, the long-awaited conven¬ tion was held at the Marriott Motor Flotel. The club returned with a First Honorable Mention in Achievement and their " splendid” chorus line brought Falls Church a First Place in talent. The year has ended for the Senior Keyettes and has just begun for the Juniors and Sopho¬ mores, but will be long remembeted by all. We felt that summer meet¬ ings were very important to our relationship within the group. Our first concert was the Magazine Assembly and since then we have sung at many school and pub¬ lic functions. This winter we sang at WMAL-TV on " Woman’s World” and we made a video-tape that was shown a few weeks later. At the Senate Building we made a tape along with the Concert Choir that was played on the radio several times during Christmas. There was recording for the Harden Weaver Show, caroling at Towers and Seven Corners, and of course, the annual Christmas Concert. The week-end of March 29 was the District Festival at Groveton High School and we all returned with grades of which we could be proud. In April we performed at the Pan American Building and in May we had a Madrigal Concert at the School. Our last performance was, as it should be, singing at Graduation. At the time of her arrival, she knew only a nominal amount of English conversation, but she quickly learned and by January was giving speeches and par¬ ticipating in panel discussions all over Virginia. This fun-loving, energetic Keyette has taught us much about her native country. To Brazil she will return with many facts about U. S. life and culture, and a becoming bouffant hair-style. Maria has been very active in school affairs this year and it is with sadness that we see her leave, for she has become one of us. Maria demonstrates her talent in art class. A.F.S. students in the area speak to F.C.H.S. American Field Service Mike and his Japanese family. MICHAEL ARNOW Mike Arnow returned from his summer in Japan filled with stories ' of his trip abroad. Mike, our 1962 A.F.S. student, lived in Kure City, Japan, with his “family”, the Mat- sudas. Mike was made to feel right at home. In fact, he even spent one month studying at a Japanese school. Though he had just completed his American schooling, Mike reported that he thoroughly enjoyed his taste of education in Japan. Mike’s experiences as our exchange stu¬ dent widened his horizons and increased his knowledge and understanding of others. Mike feels his summer abroad was most rewarding and enriching.
