It tells the story of our school for the year 1961-1962. The editor hopes the 1962 Jaguar will preserve the memory of this year—one of our most meaningful—in the minds of the students whose story it tells. Page 4 We the students of Falls Church High School are proud to dedicate the 1962 Jaguar to a man who has led us well. In the three years he has been with us, Falls Church High School has grown in spirit and curriculum. We are grateful for his guid¬ ance, interest and understanding. It is with pride and a sense of deep appreciation that we dedicate the 1962 Jaguar to Mr. William H. Jordan. Page 5 mencan Dull Sc a rt tce Nils Aasheim From Oslo, Norway, came Nils Aasheim to study at Falls Church on the A.F.S. program. Nils, the first boy to whom we have been host, made a big hit here and proved himself a wonderful international ambassador. From him we learned much of the customs, politics, and economy of Norway. From us Nils learned about the American way of life. Almost overcome by the heat when he arrived last July for his ten month stay, Nils overcame obstacles of language and customs. He became an honor roll student, a member of the debating team, and an active participant in school life. We have enjoyed having Nils at Falls Church this year, and it is v ith sadness that we bid him good-bye. Janet Reid Janet Reid, our exchange student to Switzerland, is the first student from Falls Church High School to participate in the “school-year” A.F.S. program. She has been an outstanding representative of our country. Janet wrote after three months among the Swiss, “It is surprising how proud one becomes of his country when he is away from it.” Janet’s stay in Switzerland proved to be an invaluable experience; when she returned in the spring she was still bubbling with enthusiasm for her adopted country. Henry Sharpe Henry Sharpe, Falls Church High School’s contribu¬ tion to the summer exchange program for A.F.S., spent three months in Weis, Austria. His summer abroad is something he’ll never forget, declares Henry, and he would like to go back there some day. We know Henry was an outstanding ambassador from the United States; Henry’s Austrian brother is now in California! Henry’s deep affection and friendship toward his “family” is today a cherished memory. Henry feels that he has gained a great deal from this wonderful opportunity. Page 6 Page 7 Mr. William H. Barrett Assistant Principal Mr. Barrett, Assistant Principal of Administration, is a dedicated man whose time and efforts are spent in the improvement of- Falls Church High School. Mr. Barrett has spent many years in administrative work. His experience has resulted in an ability to understand and appreciate the stu¬ dents’ problems, large or small. Assist¬ ing Mr. Jordan and acting in his place when he is away are a part of the many duties which Mr. Barrett performs. As the principal’s “right hand man” we truly appreciate his years of devoted service to the students of Falls Church. The direct tie between the teachers and the administration of Falls Church High School is provided by Mrs. Car- stater. With her patience and wisdom she is an important and valuable part of our school. Among her varied duties of advising and aiding members of the faculty, Mrs. Carstater finds time to head the American Field Service Pro¬ gram which is a full time job in itself. We are truly grateful for her never ending help. Mrs. Marie H. Carstater Assistant Principal M s. Nelle H. Miles Director of Guidance Guidance, sincere interest, under¬ standing and beneficial advice spell Mrs. Nelle Miles. Mrs. Miles gives tirelessly of her time, efforts, and abilities to serve the students of Falls Church High School. She is interested in the development of wholesome pupil attitudes and morale. A special note of thanks is given to our Director of Guidance from the Seniors for get¬ ting us off to the colleges of our choice! Page 8 ion MRS. BERNICE S. TIIOMA Librarian MRS. The Pep Club did much to boost school spirit this year by encouraging attendance at all sports events. Some of their activities included decorat¬ ing goal posts, publicizing games, selling pom poms, making victory hoops and giving the teams good-luck tokens. None of us will forget the dummy in the lobby during Homecoming Week and the Pep Club’s unique float added much to the game ceremonies. Virginia Gray . Elena Codispoti Judy Warner . . Mical Miller. .
