Besides perseverance and dependability one needsa flairfor writing as well as ability to getalong with others. The year's activity through the efforts of its capable president Duke McManigill and its efficient secretary Helen Hinchliff, was well-planned and executed. Late in September all new members were initiated . Remember those aprons, caps, and crazy dresses? That was an unforgettable eventl Their hilarious assembly was pre- ented before the student body in the pring. The club's yearly trip climaxed an fentful veor. Vice Pres., P. Sachse, Treas., J. The Hi-Y, under the dual leadership of Mr. Palmer and Mr. Mikkelson, is primarily a service organization. Helping at the P .T .A. Carnival and with the clothing drive for the Nava- hoes were two of the outstanding services performed by this group this year. ln addition, they performed many stunts at half-time during the football season and entertained at many of the pep rallies. 25 :if ' 'i -1 I a 2'6- S. Most important, they felt, were their appearances before the student body. Fallbrook's Glee Club was one of the many schools which took part in the San Diego County Choral Festival. This was one event in which our singers received a rating. lt was at the Grossmont County Choral Festival that out Glee Club, singing with other groups, was led by a famous director. With candles and yuletime songs, the Glee Club helped put their classmates in the Christmas spirit. The Glee Club also did its part to make the Spring Music Festival the success it was. Zend The officers' tripto Northern California during the summer pre- ceding the opening of school started off a busy year for the F . F .A . The Chapter Farm initiation, which was held this year at Escondido, was followed by the entry of Harold Wilson's steer in the Great Western Live Stock Show. The entrance of this steer was the first to be made by the Fallbrook Chapter. lt will not be the last since Harold received a calfto be shown at nextyear's show. Fallbrook was represented in five iudging contests this year which took the boys as far north as San Luis Obispo. ln addition to representing their school at the State Convention, Walter Amsler and Harold Wilson received their State Farmer Degrees. ln January there was the Father-Son Banquet giving the fathers an opportunity for fellowship as well as information about what their sons were accomplishing. Perhaps one of the most lookedforward to events of the year was the Bar-B-Q at which time hard-earned awards were given outand the suspense as to which boy would receive the California Bankers award was over. The Corps' pri- mary obiective in the school program, however,is to teach leader- ship. The cadet participates in drill and rifle practice. If he is good enough, he may enter the State and even the National matches. Without having to ioin a particular branch of the armed forces, he gets a taste of military life. The training the cadet receives as a member of the C.C.C. will remain with him always. 3i .lg 2- n. 5 ' if f- K , UWT 3 v-Y' Q, ani Progress of Nuflear Physxs : ' fi: 2 'Els' 'Y i .yi I- FIRST ROW: J. The mighty Warriors returned from their big hunt with three wins and four losses to massacre the Vista Pan- thers for the first time in five years. The fans went wild as Fallbrook scored 28 points to Vista's 6. This event really put a feather in the Warriors' bonnet. Eddie Calac and Jeanne Forsythe were the Home- coming King and Queen. The crowning of the royal couple helped to further spur ourteam on to Victory. 4 of I ,:'C3f5f',a- - ,Z 2' 4- 5 .f if ' . 5 . ,nj L x FIRST ROW: B. Parham, B. Parker, A. Ross, R. Wells, W. By winning the League Championship, Fallbrook High will go down in history as the first school to win an Avocado League championship. Many of the boys who were not able to go out for football competed as members of the team. Art Pentico, a good man at football, chose to run cross country instead. This was a wise choice be- cause he was the League's outstanding runner. Coach Snyder, also head basketball coach, trained the team, which accomplished a feat of which it can be justly proud. Spirited on by Miss Pierson the girls of Fallbrook High struggled through four weeks of bruising, battl ing speed- away. Nothing could stop these hardy girls, not even broken knees, sprained ankles, or stubbed toes. The object of this exciting game is to run up and down the football field in order to put the ball through the goal posts. This activity, as long as it lasted, kept the girls in tip-top condition. As winter arrived so did girls softball with Miss Pierson handling the show. Our female Babe Ruths found that their arms and back muscles had been very much neglected during the fall months. With undaunted spirits, however, they practiced batting and fielding until they were regular Pro Ball players when the season came to an end. -ig ev, 'wk -We .again K- U . 4 I A 1 U L -..,, The show that stole the spotlightg the game with ex- citement. This is a definition of that popular sport-- girls basketball. Although the girls game is different from that of the boys,it providedan opportunity forthe girls to play in an active sport similar to thatof the male members of the Student Body. Playing on different teams, the girls experienced the competitive spirit aswell as enjoyed trying to place their team among the winners. What's the matter .... too many holes in your racket? No, the ball's too small. The sun was in my eyes. I guessl need to have my glasses changed. That's not a very good excuse. Well, we all can't be champ- ions like Miss Pierson. These are onlya few of the comments made by the girls as they put into practice the rules given to them by their instructor. ' a 1 - , .Q . vm! X-X 3' ' ,fs P' rf ' ,1 1 5- i- . Q Q S.. Under the guidance and direction of Miss Pierson, the graceful swans, as they are sometimes called, had awonderful time while the season lasted. Many new strokes were learned and even those who were new to the water were swimming like experts in a very short time. At the end of the month the girls showed off theirnewly acquired skills by put- ting on a water show for the benefit of the townspeople . S. Dean C.
