The honorees were from the classes of 1929 to 1933. Girls from all the classes campaigned for a week, and then two duchesses were elected by secret ballot from each class and one by the entire student body. On November 6 the festivities began with a parade through downtown. Then on to Jersey Stadium we went to watch our boys beat Pharr. The theme of the Coronation and Ball was Neptune's Court, and colors of blue, white, silver and gold blended together to form a spectacular setting. The girls had a whirl of activities and seemed almost like debutantes. They all wore floor length formals with red wrist corsages and were royally presented along with their escorts to a suspenseful crowd. After all were on stage the announcement was made, and we all got to see the tears of joy stream down Queen Beverly's face. The football season will long be remembered as a tribute to a group of boys who started the season with only two starters and eight lettermen back from the 1958 Dis- trict Championship team and who were picked to finish next to last in district play. These boys, lacking in size, experience, depth, and the things that usually make a winning team, overcamxe the disadvantages with hard work and a fighting spirit. This fighting spirit led the Jerseys to come from behind repeatedly to give South Texas fans some of the most exciting football played anywhere. During the season of 13 games the Jerseys made a total of 186 first downs. They threw 101 passes and completed 48 for a total of 714 yards. Along with the good breaks came the bad because they fumbled the ball 51 times and lost it 33. In the entire season the Jerseys were penalized 61 times for 506 yards. They punted 40 times for a 3l yard average. They gained 3, 319 yards for a total ground yardage. The average yardage the Jerseys gained per game was 310. The Jerseys ended the season with a final score of 237 points. Final figures show Falfurrias winning 10, tieing 1, and losing 2 in advancing to the State Semi-Finals in the play off for the State "AAA" Championship. - A - A S I ' Y Dawson 7-v Gilberto Gonzalez, an outstanding senior quarterback for the Fightin' Jerseys, brought fame both to his team and to hims elf by his hard work.
