'if Q-' x li' I-'IL 7' In l642 the first schools in the country were established by law because it was apparent that education constituted a real need. Many of these schools were private homes. From this small beginning the schools of the United States have grown until, today, education is looked upon as a right of all United States' citizens. This has been accomplished by statesmen, clergy, and teachers, but most of all by parents. We, the students of Falconer Central High School, have attended the best- equipped school that has been within the financial means of the community to provide. We have learned from the best teachers available. Their devotion to us has not stopped with books and the lessons therein. They have shown a real interest in us as people as we passed through their classes. They have and deserve our thanks and respect. All this has been possible because of our parents. All through our school years our parents have stood by us, showing interest in all our achievements, taking part in our activities when they were needed, taking part in community and school organizations for the benefit of the school and us. Our parents have wiped our tears when failure overwhelmed us. They have rejoiced with us when we have shown them our accomplishments. They have urged usf on when things were difficult, and they have applauded the loudest when we have reached our goals. They have shown patience when patience was needed. They have been understanding in all our joys and trials. They have provided for recreation through buildings, leadership, and chaperoning. They have provided the means for a good education through schools, equipment, and teachers. They have provided the means for healthy bodies through good housing, good clothing, and good food. All these things they have done for us during all our years. For these and all the other things which our parents have done and are doing for us, we Want to dedicate this, our yearbook of 1957, to them, our V.I.P.'s, our parents. Board of Education Row One, Left lo Right: M. Rigby, M, Swanson, E. Larson. Ron' Tun: A. Sprague. R. Fales. L. Anderson, O. Strickland, J. Horton Hats off to the members of the Board of Education! During the past few years they have listened patiently to parent, student, and teacher petitions for a better school. They have also had the added burdens. connected with the school building program. In all of their other projects, they have done a commendable job. We of the yearbook staff salute these civic-minded citizens for their com- bined efforts on our behalf. t ' gf-1:41 'iw f . - gn ': igfw-gnnwi-E, gag,v iEQp:i,:::.,.' b A , 2 3 M 'if' '2. fi: 'ilsgf 51, ..... Class Histor On this page we would like to recall the many things we have done in our four years of high school. We started out in ninth grade by electing our class officers: Carol Sage, Presidentg Daryl Larson, Vice-President, Rose Marie Lodestro, Secretary: and Keith Matteson, Treasurer. Our class advisor was Mr. Gonsiorek. That year many things were new to us. Up until then our courses had been compulsory, but now we could choose partly for ourselves. Having chosen our courses, we felt very adult, but not so adult that we could resist putting a tack on Miss Kersten's chair, waiting gleefully for her to sit on it. Mrs. Johnson felt that we were still young enough to spank, as one of our classmates can verify. In our sophomore year, we settled down to the business of taking school seriously but not too seriously. W'e sponsored our first dance, the Halloween Jean Hop, which was quite successful. Wie also started earning money for our junior-Senior Prom, our banquet, and many other things. We sold pencils and beanies - gold and blue, the school colors. Our officers that year were: Donna Scott, President, Delma Wonders, Vice-Presidentg Shirley Funcello, Secretaryg and Bruce Smith, Treasurer. Our class advisor was Mr. Dugan. Among the many lessons we learned was one especially impressed upon us by Mr. Hoene. He did not feel that we fully understood the old maxims, spe- cifically that one "Silence is a virtue." After his homeroom had written . . . "Silence is a virtue which I have not yet acquired but after I have written this sentence as many times as I am supposed to I am sure that I will remember that silence is a virtue which I should acquire," we got the point. Our junior year was the beginning of our really big social events. After the representative from the magazine company came, we industriously settled down to selling magazine subscriptions, keeping in mind that anyone who sold 5550 worth would receive his class ring for half price. We sponsored several dances and also a skating party at Celeron to earn money. Our officers that year were: Bill Chandler, President, Delma Wfonders, Vice-President, Carole Cooper, Secretary, and Donna Scott, Treasurer. Our class advisor was Mr. Nostrant. Soon after, we were thrown into the bustle of preparation for the junior- senior banquet and prom. The theme of our banquet was Candy Land, and with Howard Hopkins as Master of Ceremony, it turned out to be a riot of fun. The prom was the crowning point of the year for us juniors, and we all enjoyed it thoroughly with none of those apprehensions about passing marks that slipped in later. Well, we made it! We became seniors and like all seniors we had the good and the bad that go with being seniors. Some of us developed "seniotitis." to borrow a term from Mr. Anderson, but we all came out with our feet on the ground. As we looked back, the trip from freshman to senior did not seem as long as it had appeared when we first entered the ninth grade. We were amazed at what we had accomplished in those four short years. We had not only kept up our marks, but we had also had many extracurricular activities, and, of course, in our senior year we had even more. We began rehearsals for our senior play, "Stars in Their Eyes," which we presented November 17 and 18. We also sold Christmas cards and candy and sponsored many dances. Our officers were: Valerie Mattison, President, Delbert Mee, Vice-President, Patricia Sears, Secretary, and Carol Sage, Treasurer. Our senior trip to Washington came during Easter vacation. Class Night, junior- Senior Prom, the crowning of the May King and Queen, the banquet and gradua- tion followed in quick succession. On graduation night, the night of our vigil, we regretfully said good-by to classmates, teachers, friends, and all of Falconer High School. The four years we had spent there had been some of the happiest of our lives. We were sad to leave, but with the knowledge that what we had learned would always stay with us, we looked forward to the future. l BEST ALL AROUND Sylvia Colera, Bill Chandler. - MosT TYPIEAL SENIORS MOST ATHLETIC xv, ,, nn 1 rt 11 nm f-1 n Donna Scott, Bruce Smith.
