To The Memory of a Friend, J. W. Griggs The memories that we held so dear Of all the joy and all the cheer Are brought to life when once again, We praise the deeds of a cherished friend. The boy, J. W. , of whom we praise Was always a friend in troubled days. He was there to lend a hand To any woman, child, or man. His pleasing smile and heart so gay His gentle hands have gone away, A book to read was his genial face That spread heavenly warmth in every darkened place. Q While yet a youth, and full of achievement His family and friends were met with bereavement. But each of us the truth do know That in our heart, a seed will grow. This seed of memory, to a flower will grow And to each of us will always grow That though all good things must some- day end. Here was a kind and gentle friend. I-le left us on a summer day In June, I believe is what they say. We lost this dear best friend But to us it's still not the end. We as seniors leave this parting thought With the happiness and cheer he brought To us a lesson was taught.
