Presentin 1959-1960 Academic Achievements GOLD KEY winners in the Scholastic Art contest sponsored by Shillitos in Cin- cinnati are Kathy Steger, Bill Altenburg, Linda Hunn, and Sue Gottschall. Fairmont is known throughout the state of Ohio, not only for its outstand- ing athletic teams but also for its aca- demic achievements. Students are taught how in class, but it is daily practice out- side school which makes them a step above the average and brings them well-deserved recognition, Fairmontonians excelin every phase of competition, including speech, music, art, journalism, science, and general scholar- ship. It would be impossible to list every- one who won honors this year, but in creating this academic honor section we hope to give our thanks for a job well done, hut most of all to encourage future winners. SIGNIFYING TRUE FELLOWSHIP are Sylvia Geyer and Janet Clark, semi-finalists in the World Fellow- ship essay contest. Sylvia went on to win S250 from the Fellowship Club of Dayton.

CONSTANT PRACTICE is the only way to gain recognition. Dave Richley is earnestly going over the speech with which he won the Dayton area Voice of Democracy contest. Fairmontonians Gain ational and State Recognition SITTING PRETTY after winning the state Prince of Peace written essay contest with her oration You and Eternity is Shirley Jones. The prize, STO0, was awarded to her by the Ohio Council of Churches. EIGHT SENIORS placed among the top finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Test.
