sms fir Smiles Upon confronting the tasle of finding and taking pictures for our devilish nightmare, we ran up against a wall of discouragement. We could find no dread expressions of boredom, grief, or frustration but only smiles. We tool? dozens upon dozens of candids in hopes of producing evidence to the nightmares of Stacherine. But only smiles dominated the blacle and white images. This led to the conclusion that perhaps our motives were absurd, for everywhere people were smiling-conversing with friends upon the lawn, encountering discussions over algebra, philosophy etc., orjust rapping on the latest. Even on those foul weather days the lunchroom hummed with gossip and those ear-to-ear smiles. There where grins and smirles that could put even the Chestshire Cat to shame. lVlesmeriZing glints and gleams sparleled from ivory white teeth. Overabundantly the smiles out numbered the e,x'pressions of despair. Somehow over the years the legions of the smile have always prevailed and always will. So here, bound upon these pages are the smiles, enemies to frustration and futility, weapons against night- mares, and savior of Stacherine. 68
