I was a child, suspended at the age of hve free to wander in the land of the Norse I prayed only to Oden And when my vikingsword was raised in warning I dragons would fall, villians would die But this institution crept up from behind and snatched me from my play How I kicked and screamed and scratched at its face How I cried and gasped I and begged for release But its grasp was firm And my childhood swords carved no lesionsin its walls I was taken to a room and fed soggy rules That fattened my mind but starved my soul How I hated our monday morning reunions But for twelve years I did as it told For twelve years I took what it gave and gave what it took . For twelve years I have endured its clutching grasp. Twelve years. Its over now. The war is over. , I am certil7ed to walk No longer an ignorant animal And I shall leave its power as I shall leave my home And with time I will live out my destiny With time I will send my children for it to hold With time I will learn to stop watching for it I t has already - stopped A watching me.
