Of 1191417 CLASS HISTORY In the early fall of 1935, thirty small and frightened children moved hesirantly up the stairs of Fairfield to enroll in the first grade. With Miss Albright as our teacher, we overcame our fears and took our first step toward our education. Miss Bierman welcomed us into her second grade and after teaching us for nine months dismissed us for summer vacation which passed all too quickly. As the fall of 1937 appeared we were once again within the walls of Fairfield and with a hopeful expression took the third step of our career. Miss Moore was our patient and capable instructor and with her assistance we mastered our multi- plication tables. With 1938, and an educated feeling, we entered the lower hall and grade four. Here we were introduced to Miss Funk who became our instructor in the fourth step. As May 19 rolled around we were promoted to the upper hall again but this time into the care of Mr. Randels. With the entrance to grade five we were considered old enough to mingle with the high school and were permitted the use of the large playground. Miss Schwab relieved Mr. Randels and took us across the hall into her sixth grade and prepared us for the oncoming events. Then in 1941 came one of our big events. We were now classified as Junior High and after a few weeks of confusion became accustomed to changing classes and teachers. Mr. Cole finally turned us over to Mr. Nesbitt and after teaching us the customs of the world through history, Mr. Nesbitt gave us our first diploma- certificate of promotion to high school. So at last the ninth step toward our goal was taken in the fall of 1943. The class which had entered Fairfield in 1935 had completed eight of its twelve steps and was now prepared for its Freshman year. To bear the executive burdens we elected: President, David Barth, Vice-President, Zelma Dyke, Secretary, Betty Dickey, Treasurer, Daniel Percy. Miss Greenisen was chosen as our faculty advisor. Included in her duties were the skating parties, the return party given to the Sophomores and other social events. As we became the Sophomore class we finally realized that there were only two more steps until we would reach our goal. Again we chose David Barth as President with the following cabinet: Vice-President, Dorothy DeRl'1odesg Secre- tary, Donna Hamilton, Treasurer, Donna Lamoncha. Honor was bestowed upon Miss Greenisen for the second time as we selected her for our faculty advisor. This year passed quickly and in September of 1945 we took our eleventh step. As our first contribution to the community we chose and presented our Junior Play entitled C-irandad Steps Out. For our greatest event of the year we held the customary Junior-Senior Banquet on May 10. Our very capable officers were: President, Donna Lamonchag Vice-President, Eugene Beckett, Treasurer, Ellis Hawkins, Secretary, Donna Hamilton. By this time it seemed as though Miss Greenisen was really a part of our class for by unanimous vote she was re-elected for the third term as advisor. The time to take the final step arrived at last as eleven of the original thirty became Seniors. Granting a vacation to Miss Greenisen, we chose Miss Deringer as our sponsor. Our play which was presented in April was titled The Daffy Dills, and with the Junior-Senior Prom the events came to a close. As we looked forward to our graduation, all had varied emotions, some of regret and some of happiness as we look into the future. Page 27
