Van Cleve, in a sea sometimes troubled, M but usually calm and peaceful. Marvelous changes have been brought about. The new 55 sunken gardens, the fountain given by the Summer Class of '27, 1 iff? an addition of a new Fine Arts Building and Gymnasium and of a scoreboard gift of the Winter Class of '27, have been instru- SQL' mental in making Fairfax a school of which we should all justly , l be proud. ' School traditions such as the Girl's League Installation, L Senior A Color Day, Fathers' and Sons' Banquet, and Mothers' 2 and Daughters' Tea were carried out better than ever before. I This year has been brimful of big events. A red letter day in the history of Fairfax was celebrated when our Promethean Society was installed as Chapter 140 of the California Scholar- G ship Federation. We enjoyed two excellent picture shows given Q by the Senior B Classes and two splendid entertainments put on ,W . by the Music Department. The Girl's Hi-Jinks was a new ad- venture for Fairfax and was such a success that we hope it will Q also become a school tradition. Fairfax is taking her just place among other schools in l f-'U athletics. We won the Lightweight Football championship, and ' 0 we hope for a Baseball championship. Besides this our teams ' made good showing in other sports. ,V Fairfax has been prominent in debating and public speaking gigjf. f contests during the past year. Inter-school and inter-class debating 2,24 5.x iff ! have been popular, and our two contestants for the Oratorical Contest took first place and second place in the local contest. It is three years since the good ship Fairfax was first launched. lt sailed timorously at first, but under the guidance of the steady hand on the tiller, came an increase of confidence. We are now well out from shore, and as we and the crew sail the uncharted seas, let us strive to keep our ship in the true, straight course beneath the azure skies. KV-s Im
