Our jet plane is now leaving the huge new air base at Basic City. This giant base is owned and managed by General and Mrs. Glenn Sensabaugh. (Mrs. Sensa- baugh is the former Dottie Roberts.) As we prepare to take off, we see the Fairfax Hall station wagon zoom past driven by Miss Ann Speck, the beloved Speech teacher at her old Alma Mater. Our first stop is just over the mountain. We see Kay Valentine, who is now a sedate matron residing on Carr’s Hill where she is Theta Chi housemother. Before leaving the beautiful state of Virginia, we will stop in on the thriving metropolis of Galax. Here we see Miss Paddy Steinbrecher in her new job for the City Department of Sanitation. She works under a former acquaintance who is head garbage collector. Next we stop in North Carolina, where we see Miss Nan Barnes, who is teaching at her tap dancing school for tiny tots. Have these footsteps changed your mind about having little ones of your own around the house yet, Nan? We go further on in North Carolina where we see the former Beth Midyette, who now has her MRS. She holds an executive position with the Highway De- partment. Her present project is straightening out the road from Bath to Cho- cowlinity. While still in North Carolina, we drop in on the former Ruth Edmundson, who is now Governor of North Carolina. She was elected because of her campaign slogan, ““Save your Confederate Money, Boys, the South Will Rise Again.” As a sideline, she is perfecting a freckle remover to use at home on her children. We now go to Brooklyn, New York, where we see Irma Woodard’s name ap- pearing on a large poster. Is she running for another office? No. She is wanted throughout the state on a gambling charge of bookie business. While in New York, we attended the opening of the Barnum and Bailey Circus. We were not surprised to see one of the Class of 1952 in their company. She was Jane ‘‘Muscles” Suthon, the Champion Weight Lifter. ‘That Hadacol really did the trick, didn’t it, Jane? We now go to Hollywood where they are shooting one in a series of Western serials entitled, “I Say, Son, Who Put That Cactus in My Saddle?” starring ‘‘Togalong”’ Jones and ‘‘Lopealong” ’ Lohr. 8 s p 8 Although we haven’t been able to locate Rae Sharpe, we hear that she is Captain of a coffee boat that runs from Pennsylvania to Brazil. As we are nearing the end of our trip, we go for a quick look at our nation’s Capital. Here we see Gren Yount, who is now co-owner of the Bell Telephone Company. She is also goalie on the Olympic Hockey Team. Just before boarding our plane, we saw Captain Diane Fereday of the United States Marine Corps Band; she had brought the band down to bid us farewell. The band was led by Private Bill Harms. After contacting all of the members of the Class of 1952, we started back for Basic City, formerly known as Waynesboro. We know that when the Faxette goes to press everyone will be glad to learn what has become of the Class of 1952. { 32} Pretty baby .. . Sleepytime gal. . . Love letters straight from your heart . . . SKC ieiGROIL SENIOR Clas S We, the Senior Class of 1952 of Fairfax Hall, Waynesboro, Virginia, seeming unusually confused in thought and action, do hereby abolish formerly established actions and do decree and publish this, our last will and testament. ARTICLE I Section 1: To Fairfax Hall, our beloved Alma Mater, we will and bequeath our deepest love and hope that the seniors in the future will have as much fun as we have had and that they will leave with as many fond memories. Section 2: To Miss Eura Strother, our sponsor, we bequeath our sincere love and a wish that she will have the best of everything in the future. Section 3: To Mr. Gates, our best friend, we wish to bequeath our deepest appreciation for the help and unde rstanding given us while at Fairfax Hall. Section 4: To the Senior Class of 1953 we will and bequeath the many privileges we hoped to get but never did. ARTICLE II I, Mary Lewis Williamson, being of nonexistent mind, do hereby will and be- queath my frog skeleton, Murgatroyd, to Dora Mae Davis and Mary Baugh in hopes that they will look at him and think of me. I, Elfrieda Booker, being of little body and less mind, do hereby leave my ability to give permanents to Paula Bernstein, so that she will be able to keep Gail Kerwin looking presentable next year. I, Sandra Blum, most gladly bequeath my exasperating tresses to Gail Kerwin, my “quaint” driftwood collection and nature walks to Miss Wills, and my U. Va. acquaintances to my roomie, Sue Lewis. I, Francie Denmead, not sure I’m in my right mind or body, bequeath my nose (?) to anyone who will take it. I, Bixie Carr, will and bequeath my will power not to suck my finger to Lorinda Roland. I, Joy Olds, will and bequeath my love for Texas to Sheila and Libby. I, Bunny ‘Taylor, leave. I, Mary Welch, will and bequeath my ability at shooting dice to Mary Ann Poole and Betty Cox, in hopes that they will become professionals like me. I, Patsy Leach, do hereby will and bequeath to Jane Babini my ability to scare bridge into people by screaming. I, Nancy Major, hereby will and bequeath my pet skunk, ‘“‘“Geranium,” to Miss Gambrill and hope that future chemistry classes will smell better than ours did. I, Jean Dowdy, do hereby will and bequeath my pair of rusty scissors to my “roomie,” Gail Thurmond, to continue our school of unique hair design. I, Jane Summers, do solemnly will and bequeath my glass telephone to Linda Elmslie and my infallible clock to Janice Carter. I, Emmy Lou Denmead, will the cozy, air-conditioned closets on the third floor wing to those poor dears on the second floor who are forever getting campused. I, Pat Debnam, will to my roommate, Heather Covell, my patient uncomplaining nature and hope that she may some day overcome her (to quote Miss Elliott) “‘pale personality.” I, Pat Penny, leave my job as chief cook and bottle washer for all concerts to Gale Stone, in hopes that she will enjoy it as much as I did and emerge a little less frustrated. I, Jo Ann Brabham, being of frail mind and body (?), do will and bequeath to Rusty Rice my Southern accent, and to Lee Smith and Jo Coleman my slim figure. I hope that they do better than I did. I, Gaines Moss, do hereby leave my brilliance in Geometry to Janice Carter. I, Sally Koch, do will and bequeath to Judy Pell my bed in the infirmary, in hopes that she will be as sweet as I was. I, Nancy Gonzalez, hereby bequeath to the Biology class my long-abused and dilapidated cost to be dissected with the greatest of care so as to produce the best scientific results. {54} I, Skipper Korschgen, do will my grammar ability to Lee Smith. I, Dixie Lane, do will and bequeath my love, Jim Craig, to Connie Northridge, in hopes that she has as much fun at U. Va. as I did. : I, Dottie Burleson, leave my yodeling in the smoker to Mary Laura Leach and hope that she doesn’t drive everyone crazy, as I did. I, Betty Brook, do will and bequeath the “college smoker’ to Libby and Sheila with much love. I, Bunny Brunn, being of sound mind, leave those good-looking Quantico Ma- rines to anyone who wants them, in hopes that they have as much fun as Francie and I did. I, Selma Brenner, with heavy heart and tearful eyes, do will and bequeath to Gail Thurmond, my roommate, Sally Trotter, for use for one year only, and hope that she does not spoil her too much. I, Margie Phillips, will and bequeath Johns Hopkins University to anyone who is able to hold a man there better than I did. I, Zan Van Antwerp, leave my study habits to my roommate, Marlene Wankum, and to Miss Willis I leave my mice. I, Joan Rademaekers, being of sound mind and body, will and bequeath my naturally curly hair to Beep and Marcie. I, Susanne Stedman, hereby will to Mary Laura Leach, with more relief than regrets, the hectic train trips from Texas to Virginia, and hope she will learn to make the best of things as I have done. I, Janet Rattray, do solemnly bequeath all train, bus, and plane schedules to Frances Ricks, along with a giant size bottle of ammonia, in order to make sure that she keeps a clear head during her trips to that dear old Tarheel State. I, Betty Burton, being of fairly sound mind, do hereby will my favorite Moscow Mule mug to Jane Babini, in hopes that she will uphold it on many occasions and to Judy Alexander I leave my art of griping, as she has learned to do it so well. I, Sue Shoun, being in a somewhat cramped position, do hereby bequeath my place under the smoker benches, complete with a splinterproof helmet, to all the juniors (especially Sylvia Watson), in the hope that they may escape being caught by Mrs. Lemley and Mrs. Maupin as often as I was. (P.S.—Behind the bulletin board, for those miserable Monday mornings when no one has a cigarette, there is a butt for the first person who gets out of the dining room.) I, Alice von Seldeneck, solemnly bequeath a much-coveted package of “Tintair” to Heather Covell, so that she may at last have hair as blond as mine. I, Diane Martin, do hereby will and bequeath my ‘“‘different”? poodle cuts to Marlene Wankum and my seat at the bridge table to Linda Elmslie in hopes that she will keep it warm. I, Claire Ide, do will and bequeath my monopoly over the detective agency in Room 115 to Nancy Grine and hope that she will uphold the good name. I, Cris McCoy, do will my inability to say what “I ’ont to say” during Senior Hour to Janice Carter, in hopes that she will be more successful than I have been in getting in a word. Given under my hand and seal at Waynesboro, Virginia, this 7th day of June, 1952: SELMA BRENNER, Class of 1952 A igh Sdhal ie Prophecy The stars have predicted for you What’s to become of the class of °52. There will be many changes as nature arranges A date with the future for you. Sue Stedman has her date book filled With society affairs and such, While on the continent Betty Burton roams With her husband, visiting the Dutch. {55} The typical housewife of the year, Jo Ann Brabham, with her children, is seen, Visiting Bunny Taylor, the Congresswoman, Who has brain and temper quite keen. We find Skipper Korschgen’s fame great As a doctor she’s one of the best. Dottie Burleson still has her ills And enjoys them with the usual zest. Dixie Lane found a way to lose weight; She’s as slim, just as slim as can be. And Jean Dowdy is buying more clothes To impress her new love, whoever he be. Cris McCoy as an architect’s wife Is, as usual, sweet and sedate. But Claire Ide has a problem we hear; There’s so little to investigate. At the ballet is Director Alice von Seldeneck; She’s the best in her profession, they say. Elfrieda Booker’s the best lady lawyer; We'll visit her in court one day. Sue Shoun’s teaching Spanish, we hear, With Mary Lewis Williamson right by her side. Joan Rademaekers has a very fine job; She’s the head Pennsylvania guide. Sandy Blum in the theater is tops, Her name is a spell in disguise. Bixie Carr is a beach-comber’s wife, With the city folk she does not fraternize. Betty Brook, still Olympic champ, Spends her winters in the sunshine so warm, While Jane Summers enjoys all the gifts Her admirers do give when they swarm. At Harvard the professor’s wife, Diane Martin, sits calm and serene, While Janet Rattray recalls some old tales; In her eye is that laughing gleam. Pat Penny is at the Hall teaching; Her voice is as good as gold. Nancy Major is out on the farm And looks younger than ever, I’m told. Bunny Brunn and Joy Olds are still hoping To find the right shades for their hair, While Gaines Moss is still quietly waiting For Georgie who forgot her somewhere. Zan Van Antwerp is living in Turkey, With Abdullah, the scout for the king. Mary Welch still stands in her parlor, Trying to learn how to sing. Nancy Gonzalez has taken up smoking; From Pat Debnam she begs for a drag, And the Denmead twins smile at their admirers And ask, “‘Can you all really shag?” Selma Brenner’s in search of a husband; A grocer’s son is surely her fate. Patsy Leach has fifty grandchildren; Over everything she loves to debate. Margie Phillips is happily married; Her sons are Johns Hopkins bound. And last but not least is Sally Koch Whose lost weight can never be found. To Fairfax Hall all success and happiness we owe. Without your help, our future would never, never grow. {56} ‘Sunday morning coffee”... The pause that refreshes... Four of a kind. . . Singing class... Pals... Three singers...
