The above pictured students are charter members of this program which also includes membership in the I.C.E. Club. These students were selected for the program because of their particular interest in learning about a trade or occupation as part of their school work and the willingness of certain businesses in our town that were willing to offer their facilities and a trainer to help the students gain skills and knowledge in the occupations of their choice . Mr. Fyke is the co-ordinator of the program and is responsible for co-ordinating the student's on-the-job training with a related class which meets daily with all the students in attendance. Most of the students spend at least three hours a day on the job which along with the Related class earns them two credits toward graduation. The officers of the first I.C.E. Club are Steve Smith--President, William Runyon--Vice President, Joyce Taylor--Secretary, and Debbie Tollensdorf--Treasurer. The club this year put together a colored film slide and a tape recording which was used to acquaint the community with the new program. It sponsored the first annual Sadie Hawkins Day dance and gave a banquet at the OLD SUSANNAH honoring each of the employers and trainers with which the students were associated this year. CLUB 23 A.F.S. STUDENT ABEL DE JESUS Abel Ribeiro De Jesus from Salvador, Brazil was the third American Field Service exchange student for Fairbury-Cropsey High School. During the past year Abel has taken part in the Mathematics Club, the Senior Class Play, Student Council, French Club, and National Honor Society. Abel stated that in the U.S. he was particularly impressed with school clubs, snow, hamburgers, the opportunities for women, and the high standard of living; he expressed some dismay, however, over the constant hustle-bustle of the people and--cold weather. We have enjoyed the friendship of Abel and his interesting discussions about his own country; we sincerely hope that he will take with him many pleasant memories of Fairbury. Abel will return to his family and home in Brazil after the completion of a U.S. tour scheduled immediately after the close of the school year. It is the story of a New York family who buys a rather old country place where George Washington was supposed to have slept. During the restoration of their colonial home the Fullers--Newton, Annabelle, and Madge--meet many strange people, including Raymond, their mischievous nephew; Uncle Stanley, the rich uncle who turns out to be not so rich; Mr. Prescott, the miserly old neighbor, and the movie stars, Rena Leslie and Clayton Evans. They are assisted with the details by the lovable old Mr. Kimber, the caretaker, who does a fine job of messing things up. At first everything seems to go wrong. The Fullers believe that they will have to give up their house, but Uncle Stanley saves the day and the house is retained. Mr. Fuller did an excellent job of directing and staging the play. He designed the set which required three complete changes. Bruce Huber served as student director; John Munz, Steve Brandt and Craig Sutter took care of setting the stage. THE SENIOR PL A T THE CURIOUS SA VAGE On November 12 and 13, the Senior Class presented John Patrick’s The Curious Savage. Mr. David Fuller directed the play and designed and helped build the stage setting. Mr. Fuller was assisted by Barbara Crews, student director. The story centers around Mrs. Savage, who inherits ten million dollars in negotiable securities from her husband. Mrs. Savage wishes to set up the entire amount in a happiness trust, in memory of her husband . Her children feel that her plans are so foolish that she must be losing her mind. They plan to have her declared incompetent and placed in a sanitorium, so they can divide the money. Mrs. Savage is persuaded to take up residence at a sanitorium while the papers are being processed. To her new home, she takes some prized possessions--among them, an old teddy bear, in which she has placed the money. Throughout her entire stay, her children are constantly pressuring her for the money. Just as Mrs. Savage finally decides there is nothing else to do but give it to them, someone steals the money. As the curtain falls, the money is returned and Mrs. Savage is declared of sound mind. STANDING, left to right: J. Wall, B. Crews, M. Dolgin, C. Ward, P. Dameron, A. Klitzing, D. Bray, A. As your Co-Editors for the past year, we have assumed this responsibility. The theme of the 1966 Crier is That Heavenly Year. It has truly been a heavenly year, although it has not always been as rosy as we would have liked it to have been. In compiling this yearbook we have tried to include all of the unforgettable big events and many of the soon-forgotten, (but just as important), smaller events which constitute our heavenly year. For their help in making our yearbook possible, we would like to thank the following: The American Yearbook Company Mr. Joe Gardner, Yearbook Company Representative Blankenberg Photographers Mr. Walter Fergusen Watt Nakamaru THE FAIRBURY BLADE Mr. James Peerman, High School Principal Mrs. Pauline Grandon, Yearbook Advisor Yearbook Staff. Farewell and best wishes to all. Your Co-Editors, Adele and Ron
