THE CRIER FAIRBURY-CROPSEY HIGH SCHOOL 1965 FAIRBURY, ILLINOIS PUBLISHED BY AMERICAN YEARBOOK COMPANY 2 Dedication Page 2 Foreword 4 Administration and Faculty 5 Classes 13 AFS Student 34 Organizations 35 Activities 45 Senior Data 80 Index 84 3 FOREWORD If a man does not make new acquaintances as he advances through life, he will soon find himself left alone. --Johnson Throughout our years at F.C.H.S. we have formed many rewarding friendships. Upon these friendships are built the good times and memories of high school life. Classes, dances, games--they were all important because they were shared with our friends. But as in every year, the Seniors graduate, they go their separate ways, and friends part. Although it saddens us to leave the memories and friends at F.C.H.S., it is important to remember that the new undiscovered friendships of our future will be as rewarding as those of our past. Our high school friends are only the beginning. It is the purpose of this CRIER to maintain the memory of our high school life and the memory of our high school friends through our theme--friendship. I desire so to conduct the affairs of this administration that if at the end, when I come to lay down the reins of power, I have lost every other friend on earth, I shall at least have one friend left, and that friend shall be down inside of me. --Abraham Lincoln _______________________ Administration And Faculty ADMINISTRATION MRS. Student Janet Ferguson Fairbury-Cropsey was honored this year for the second time with an American Field Service exchange student. Charming Janet Ferguson came to Fairbury from Hornchurch, England to add zest and vigor to F.C.H.S. activities . Janet's American parents, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Rawson and their children, Laura, Beth, and Katie, enjoyed Janet as much as the community did. Besides excelling in her five high school subjects. Janet always seemed to find time to actively participate in G.A.A., M.Y.F., French Club, Student Council, and the Senior Class Play. Her American way of life ended in July when she left the United States to return to England. It was just a simple little speech on manners.” This line in the Senior Play, Time Out for Ginger, refers to Mr. Carol's speech at the local high school. His two daughters, Joan and Jeannie, interpret the speech to mean that he would abolish gym for girls, and in consequence starts a campaign for gaining the end. However, the most important result is that Mr. Carol's youngest daughter, Ginger, interprets it to mean that she is free to go out for the football team. Thus, her actions are largely publicized and lead to a full-sized article in LIFE magazine. As a result, Mr. Carol's job is threatened, but he supports his daughter wholeheartedly. The play reaches a hilarious climax when Mr. Carol excitedly recounts to his wife his daughter's first football game. Fortunately the whole situation is saved by Ginger herself. It has made her realize at last that there is a difference between girls and boys. Most girls just do not play football! 57 But I don't want to be a cheerleader! Senior Class Play 53 JUNIOR CLASS PLAY THE MIRACLE WORKER The Juniors presented THE MIRACLE WORKER as the 1964-65 spring play. Mr. Malone directed the play while Mr. Fuller designed and built the stage setting and served as assistant director. The play is the story of the early life and education of Helen Keller. Ann Sullivan, Helen’s tireless and ingenious teacher, is portrayed as she begins her adult life, and as she begins the salvation of Helen from the animalistic life of a blind-deaf child, often against the protests of the Kellers. The play was very well done; the set was brilliantly designed and executed; and the crowd was an all time record breaker--six hundred for two nights--a smashing success! The play is a broadway play and many colleges have done it only this year. Most experts proclaimed that THE MIRACLE WORKER was impossible in such a small high school. The Junior Class is to be congratulated! 54 55 THE TEEN BEATS Instrumental The sixth annual Top Teen Talent Show, sponsored by the Mathematics Club, was held this year on March 27. This exciting show was the finest that the contestants from Fairbury and surrounding schools have ever produced. In the midst of a crowd of one thousand the eighteen entries displayed their talents. The entries were placed in various classifications including vocal, keyboard, instrumental, and novelty. After careful scrutiny by the three judges, the Teen Beats from Saunemin emerged as the 1965 Grand Prize Winner. There were also three other first prize winners, one from each of the remaining divisions. The money that the Mathematics Club earns has been put to good use throughout the past years. Over $1000 has been donated by the club to various clubs within the school. The club has purchased much of the special Bluenote equipment, has furnished money to send the cheerleaders to camp, and has bought equipment that is used and enjoyed by everyone in the school. This equipment includes an air conditioner, spot lights for the plays, and a copy machine. The Mathematics Club, under the leadership of Mr. Roy Melvin, is an organization directed toward attaining new skills and interests in mathematics and science. 56 TOP TEEN 57 TALENT SHOW Dr. Jekyll and Miss Hyde 58 SNAPS 59 Aren't they pretty? We have countless memories that we will leave behind when we sadly close the last page of this book. Still, we look forward to our new experiences of the future with much enthusiasm. We hope that this yearbook will hold many fond recollections for you as it will for us. For the underclassmen this edition of the CRIER will serve as a reminder of the year '64-65, but for the seniors this book is the final chapter in their high school book of memories. In closing we wish to express our appreciation to all of our teachers, our parents, and friends who have done so much to help us enjoy our education. Our special thanks to--American Yearbook Company for patience and understanding when we were behind schedule ; Joe Gardner, American Yearbook representative, for guidance and advice; Blankenberg Photographers for their excellent pictures and cooperation in getting them to us in time; Fergusen and Son Photography, FAIRBURY BLADE, and Watt Nakamaru for additional photography; Mr. Peer man for his patient assistance; The Faculty and Student Body for their cooperation all year. 88 Ellen Fugate Kathy Simpson CO-EDITORS
