e n eing the Skyhawk bird allows me to be out on the field show- ing my spirit and encouraging others. stated Sophomore Christy Kesner. Here Christy suits up for a home game against Carroll. Iot just anyone would give up the last two weeks of summer to sharpen their musical skills like the Skyhawk Force did Being one of the dedicated. Senior Dawn Gruber takes roll and records absence excuses Ahh summer! Those three wonderful months of sweltering heat which we could spend any way we pleased. Some of us chose to laze around until 11:00 or 12:00 and then roll out of bed just in time to be poolside, catching the rays, while others did more useful things such as pocket a little extra cash by working part-time or even adding to our credits by attending summer school. No matter how we chose to spend the summer, it still went by in a flash and soon the back- to-school blues swept upon us. The '85-'86 school year began a little differently than any other year could claim to. This time FHS brought its students together without con- flicts of any kind. When the class of '85 graduated, they took with them the last of the memories of past rival schools. This meant the fourth year was not only special to the seniors, who were the first freshman class to complete all four years, but also the underclassmen to continue creating FHS memories. Not all the conflicts that were resolved were as obvious as this. We gained the right of way, by getting a green arrow added to the traffic light out- side the school. We no longer had to battle the oncoming cars to make the final left turn into school. For those of us who always left home in the morn- ings with only five minutes to spare before the first bell, we were assured we wouldn't be among the many backed up to Kroger's and K-Mart. For the ones who left with no minutes to spare, this meant that we could no longer use the old and faithful excuse to the attend- ance office or homeroom teacher, I was late because of the traffic. Ending another conflict, was the passing of the school levy. Proving the old cliche. When the going gets tough the tough get going,” we banned together and hit the streets to remind the community to vote YES at election time. Despite the rain, student participation proved another old controversy of having no school spirit as bunch of HOGWASH! With spirit in mind, a spirit bonfire earned its place as a new tradition at FHS by its unexpected show of students. A new type of pep rally was also introduced. Instead of just ticket holders and honor rollers being excused from sixth period, the whole student body left the old gym pep rally behind and traveled out to the soccer stadium to begin yet another new spirit tradition.
