People to People Projects On the 30th and 31st of December, 1965, 25 officers and enlisted personnel from the EVERSOLE contributed their time and skills to the St. Josephs Mission Hospital for Aborigines in Pentung, Taiwan. They repaired autoclaves, steri- lizers and other electrical fixtures, made benches and ladders, and repaired the children ' s playground equipment. They also moved and rearranged heavy furni- ture in the hospital. The ship ' s medical department headed by DESDIV 232 Medi- cal Officer LT R.M. RANKIN contributed badly needed drugs and services for the treatment of patients. Dr. RANKIN saw patients with Sister Margarita, doctor in charge of the hospital. The entire crew of the EVERSOLE contributed a total of $116.6 0 to the hospital which was used to purchase strollers, chairs, tricycles, and other toys for the hospital nursery children, plus fresh citrus fruits and melons. Clothespins, clothes line, and jigsaw puzzles were purchased for the Sisters in charge. 82

On the 20th of December, 1965, 18 orphans from the Chinese Naval Orphanage, Tsoying were invited aboard EVERSOLE for a Christmas party. Ice cream and cookies were served in the mess decks, followed by a tour of the ship and the presentation of presents to each child on the Signal Bridge. 83
