DASH ops - once or twice a day was the rule rather than the exception, as the two oldest birds in the fleet chalked up near record performances for hours in the air. The one time that the Airdales were called upon to get the Drone Anti-Submarine Helicopter in the air for time, they came through in less than lii minutes - in itself quite an accomplishment. On the 10 of January a celebration w cake was held on the flight deckto mark 100 hrs. of flight time on the oldest bird - a goal very few have attained. Two 50 cal. machine guns were issued the ship in Japan, in anticipation of South China Sea operations. The Gunners-Mates kept them oiled and ready, firing them for training on several occasions. 75
