Thomas, and Todd leTTermen s iackefs gold banded shoul Morrow speak Their minds aT a fall Senior As- ders sembly, keeping Their class informed, When The consTrucTion of whaT is now known as Evergreen High School was compleTed in 4956, a formal dedicaTion was held. The building iTself was, and sTilI is, as communiTy efforT. The campus was looked upon as an 'expression of The educa- Tional hopes, desires, and policies of The Highline School DisTricT for more and beTTer educaTion for iT's children'. Many Things have changed since ThaT dedicaTion in 4956. The physical aspecTs of ThaT change are only a small parT of iT. Senior sTudenTs will remember when The 400 building had noT one, buT Two halls, ThaT inTersecTed aT The cenTer of The build- ing. The huge evergreen Tree ThaT once sfood Tall and proud aT The middle of The campus is now iusf a memory. Evergreen sTudenTs have changed even more Than The campus has. ln The early years of EHS, a sTricT dress code was presenT, sTaTing ThaT girls haa' To wear dresses or skirTs, no panTs allowed! VVolverine's values have changed as well. ln 4986, we Think differenTly Than any oTher generaTion, wlTh open minds and creaTive ideas. STudenTs of Today accepT such once 'Taboo' subjecfs as inTerracial daTing and The idea of girls Taking auTo shop. The rules and regulafions ThaT make up EHS have become more complicaTed, buT also more relaxed in many ways. STu- denTs Take a much greaTer role in Their educaTional and exTra- curricular lives. They are given more choices To make, more chances To succeed or fail, and more chances To show The world whaT They're really made of. The 4956 Dedicafion of Evergreen High School reads as follows: l'LeT us look To The fuTure welfare and accomplish- menTs of These younger cifizens as we seek The meriTs of This cooperafive venTure . The 'meriTs' are evidenT. WhaT cosT a mere S42. 45 per square fooT To build has proved To be a place where Thousands of 'younger cifizens' learned noT only abouT reading, wrifing, and .ariThmeTic, buT abouT The world ouTside of Those classroom walls. ln some opinions, ThaT experience was priceless. by Shelby Murphy Sfudenf Life 97

K: , fEf '1-Af v Robby Bonus looks up from taking notes on 'free of charge triviaf Sk. The peaceful darkness is pierced by the clock radio's cheerful tribute to the new day. From beneath covers that are piled high with clothes and books, a disgruntled lmmglff' is heard Cbarely heard, that is, because of the clock radiol, a somewhat less cheerful tribute. A Wolverines day has begun. After snoozing until the minimum amount of time needed to prepare one's self for the calamities of student life is left, the dis- trubed sleeper pries himself out of bed. A guick shower, blow dry the hair, mousse the hair, gel the hair, spray the hair, and it's time for a breakfast of nutritious cold pizza and nourishing diet cherry 'Slicef Next step Y get to class alive and preferably awake. But, since the previous night was spent doing the dreaded eng- lish homework and watching 'Late Night With David Letterman, he falls asleep in lst period anyway, only to wake up to the bell signaling the end of class. Second period Health brings CPR to learn and 'Chris Clean' to become friendly with. Third period is spent typing faster than the speed of light, or so it seems. Fourth period lournalism brings out his Roving Reporter personna, until his growling stomach signals the time for lunch. Will he brave the cafeteria, or risk his sensitive tasebuds at the nearest fast food exravaganza? Today its a race to Taco Time, and then back to the school parking lot to search vainly for a spot. Fifth period Chemistry is spent learning how NCT to 're-invent the wheel' and sixth period English was full of surprises, including a pop quiz. H As that final bell rings at 2:15, Wolverine students minds turn to many different subjects. There are clubs to participate in, student government, and part time jobs. Arriving home, there's homework to be done, dinner to devour, and a messy room to clean. And what's this? Pee Wee Herman is on 'Letterman' tonight? lt looks like another typical day in a students life is about to begin and end again and again, and again, and again , . . by Shelby Murphy '1 Student Life Q9
