VOICES ECHO IN DEBATE The ability to think clearly, make wise decisions and to influence others by the oral presentation of ideas has played a very im- portant part in the history of this world ever since people began to live and work to- gether in groups and communities. lt is im- possible to imagine a single day in our lives when we are not oltected by the thoughts and arguments of others. Debate students are acquiring poise and the ability to think and speak fluently. The word Debate originally meant to beat, and with the vigilant help of Miss Bryant this squad has learned the art of persuasion. Our debators participated in all Puget Sound League debates for the first time this year. The topic for discussion was Re- solved that the American System of Public Education Be Fundamentally Revised. Our Debate squad took part in all types of speech-making contests this year. They worked hard to attain high honors in the Tournament for Speechmakers at the University of Washington in November 1958, at Seattle Pacific College on January 30 and 31, and at the speech contest held at Pacitic Lutheran College in February, I959.
