JUNIOR VARSITY PLAYS EXCITING OVERTIIVIES Evergreen's '58-'59 Junior Varsity Team had a season's record of three wins and six- teen defeats. The squad had many close games with exciting overtimes. Coach - Mr. Bing Dahl Mr. Dahl, Evergreen basketball coach graduated from Washington State College in l949. In this, his fourth year at Evergreen, he guided our players through their first season in the tough Puget Sound League. Under Mr. Dahl's training our team has de- veloped skill, displayed determination and set standards of sportsmanship for future teams to follow. FINE COACHING DEVELOPS SKILLS, SPIRIT Paul McTaggart - Inspirational Award Paul McTaggart left vivid impressions of Evergreen spirit and sportsmanship. Evergreen's track team displayed considerable im- provement during the i958 season when all but one of the school records were broken. The highlight of the Wolverine season was John Gamill's entry in the Wash- ., Track Coach Mr. Charles Brigham TRACK TEAM DISPLAYS ington State Track Meet in the high jump and broad jump. He was one of the only two sophomores to place in this big meet when he captured a fifth place in the broad jump. Other outstanding performers were Clint McKay in the pole vault and mile run, Larry Slinker in the hurdles, Mike Knapp in the 440 and discus, George Miller and Jack Sather in the sprints, Arnold Franks and Hugh Criswell in the high jump, Harold Gehring, Stan Redmond, Harold Perantie and Bill Miltimore in the distance runs, and Dennis Mutton in the weights. At the time of this writing, the track future of the Wolverines looks brighter. With the nucleus of return- ing lettermen is a strong contingent of sophomore and junior aspirants. Evergreen's first Annual Interclass Track Meet in i959 was won by the sophomores paced by Howard Dowdell and Dick Kelly. A feeling of hope- ful optimisn prevails among the squad members as they run into Puget Sound League Competition for the first time in l959.
