FTER having for four years received the wealth ot lite that Evander has to otler, like selfish chil- dren ot a devoted mother, we are leaving her for new, undiscovered places. Little wonder that we halt, at the last moment, on the threshold of the home we leave, and loolc ahout us reminiscently. One more last loolc in this familiar corner. One more last handshake with that familiar classmate. It is hard to helieve we will never again he part of this young world. Our ungainly limbs have suddenly grown over-large and we resent the inevita- hility of growth and maturity. But we depart, nevertheless, with one last, lervent hope: that we may someday do some- thing to malce Evander proud ol usl 'All of us leave, with undimmed trust in our ability and in our future. This confidence Evander has helped to foster with unstinting and tireless effort. We will always he mindful of Evanderys lcindly inlluence. God grant the world will treat us with the same forbearance and gentle sympathy that Evander has used in rearing us. God grant our bright hopes will not he shattered hy cruel disappointment. OW forlorn the Evander senior feels when he realizes that in just a short time he will no longer he a part of the school that has housed him for four long years. But we can never really leave Evander hehind us, for we shall always carry part of it wherever we go, whatever we do, whoever we are, in our lmowledge, our memories and our friendships. A It has heen tour long years since we first timidly approached this over- poweringly large huilding. Nine hundred of us, hewildered uFreshies,n hrought together from all the points of the glohe-well, ot New York, anyway. Unlcnowingly and unlcnown, lost in this vast array of rooms, halls, staircases, and offices. ABut underneath those confusing exteriors heat strong hearts and steady purposes. Even then our motto was Progressf, and our aim The World of Tomor- row.H Nothing was going to stop us and nothing did. Get- ting lrom one side of the school on the fourth Hoor to the other side on the first-somehow, our programs were al- ways arranged that way,-hecame a matter of exercise and ingenuity in shoving. Getting from gym to our next class constituted another form of torture, and getting to school just hefore the late hell sounded, a matter of routine. Yet how soon we hecame ahsorhed into the Howing hlood- stream of the schooll AFreshman year ended. Sopho- more year came and passed. Vve had hecome a vital part ol ifvandefs many cluhs and other activities. We still loolced up to the Seniors, hut, oh, what fun we had heing generously condescending to the Freshmen. We joined the Arista, and to wear those pins was a glorious end in itselfl We grew in numhers, in strength, in activity and even in noisiness. That term Hcharleyys Aunt was staged hy Mr. Friedlander with the aid,-'so they said.-of his last dramatic class. And one of the most illustrious members of our class, Hillard Edelsaclc, had one of the leading roles. Another memory of a memorahle year at Evander. A Sud- denly, midterms and Regents came. Then report cards were handed out. And a new day, the new day which we had so eagerly awaited as the climax of our high school career, dawned. Seniors at last! any of us ever tor- get the thrill of electing our officers to run our affairs? Ur ever forget how the election proved to he a landslide for the wealcer sex, with Joan Kelly at the helm of our Ship ot State, Dotty Piccolino as her assistant and social director, Lauretta Brandes to hound us ahout our Senior dues, Gem- ma Catenacci as our very capahle secretary, and Dehhy Friedman to give us an Oriole? That will forever remain as one of our most treasured rememhrances. A That term, the 25th anniversary of Evander's creation, was an out- standing one all around. The Silver Anniversary Pageant, Dedication to Youthf, was one which we shall all long WHIRL OF BYC-CNE DAYS
