LTIFIFIFJ UJUJ UIUJVICD mn: :ummm WUI MUJUIUD Under a new coach Mr Howard Tolle the Hlghlanders 0fflCla11y opened the season on October 22 wxth Garfleld Usmg the fast break effect1vely and often E H S came out on top 25 22 In thelr next game they dropped the conference opener-42 21 to Omaha Followmg thls was a 22 19 defeat by Valley Spr1ngs The semors came wxthm four po1nts of effectmg what would have been the upset of the season when they lost to Berryvllle 26 22 The hlghly rated Bob cats had to revert to stallmg the last two m1nutes to save the game The Hlghlanders bowed to Green Forest the next week 37 21 followed by an unexpected overtlme perlod 33 31 To prove thxs vlctory was no accxdent the Hxghlanders followed up wxth a dec1s1ve 34 19 trxumph over Berg man They entered the Berryvllle Hol1day Tournament but were el1m1nated by Jasper 38 27 In the second round of the season Garfxeld returned thelr game to Eureka and handed the semors their sxxth loss-45 44 In the next conference t1lt Valley Sprmgs topped the Hlghlanders 40 38 ln a bztterly contested overtlme match The senxors falled to llve up to expectatlons 1n thelr re turn game w1th Berryvllle by bowmg 42 16 The next week they lost to Jasper 40 16 The Hxgh landers took out thelr revenge on baffled R1dgeway by turmng 1n a 54 18 trouncmg nn thelr last wm of the season Bob Toombs and Homer Wnght went on scormg sprees rackmg up 16 and 15 po1nts respectxvely The senxors then lost three stralght to Omaha Green Forest and Bergman Coach Tolle d1d a credltable Job wlth the team 1n spxte of the fact that the H1ghlanders were the smallest f1ve 1n the conference and that practxce fac1l1txes were poor and 1nconven1ent Whlle wmnmg only three games agalnst eleven defeats, the Hxghlanders provxded many close and exc1t1ng contests wh1le showmg that they could play basketball Homer Wrlght paced polnt mak1ng thls season wxth 101, followed by Toombs and Stldham w1th 57 aplece J1m Dav1s was sharpest from the free throw l1ne, completmg 54 percent of shots attempted Ken Keck was runner up ln th1s department wlth 41 percent As a team the H1gh gang,?rs scored 380 po1nts to thelr opponents 491 1n fourteen games for an average fxnal score of 5 I , I H r I ..... . . . . They lend a hand both in classroom supervision and in physical education classes. Their efiorts are best known and appreciated by the faculty members they relieve, on their behalf, Thanks a million. CAFETERIA ASSISTANTS Much credit for the efficiently operated cafeteria goes to the stu- dent assistants, who give up a large part of their lunch periods to help serve meals. From 11:30- 1:30 they are busy taking lunch tickets, setting tables, serving, and then clearing tablesf They are supervised by Mrs. Margaret Leise.
