He then continued his studies at Vanderbuilt and the Union Seminary where he re- ceived his Bachelor of Divinity and Masters of Sacred Music. Following this, he took graduate work at Kansas University and the University of Chicago be- fore receiving his honorary doctorate from the Christian Theological Seminary in 1963. ln 1943 he married Louis Worrel, Eureka College's present instructor of piano, organ, and bell choir. 1 X They have two children, Carol and Paul. Your emphasis upon a high standard of scholarship from your students is equalled by the rigid standards you maintain for your- self. Your book, A Compend of Alexander Campbell, and the many articles you have had published are tangible evidences that an active, searching mind does not remain inert. In addition to your scholarly pursuits off campus, you are known affectionately as "Prof" to students in religion, philosophy, senior seminar, and chapel choir. Your subtle humor and ever questioning mind make class a challenge for your students. Your dilligent work on the new library has not gone unnoticed. Because you remain a student yourself, because you so well integrate the facets of your life into a significant whole, we proudly dedicate this book to you. IT "l f J' M5 J .V .f . Whether behind the pulpit or behind the typewriter as author of several books, Dr. Sikes attempted to "grasp" the basic truths concerning his faith and its place in the world in which he lived. As a delegate to the Third Assembly of the World Council of Churches and several meetings of the World Study Conference of the National Council of Churches, he not only tried to understand his faith, but lived it. We, who were fortunate enough to have known Dr. Sikes during his brief stay with us, will not soon forget the quality of this devoted man's faith and character.
