Miles wmgdim One of the newest organizations in school is the recently organized Swing Choir. In an effort to provide a new type of musical voice ensemble, Mr. Harrison, director of vocal music, conducted try-outs for over fifty girls. After eliminations twenty girls began work on swing arrangements of music familiar to everyone. Even in its earliest stages, the Swing Choir became an excellent example of the music department at Eugene High. This was proved by its first performance given in the annual Christmas music assembly. Then without much delay they were invited to Colin Kelly for the exchange music assembly. We are looking forward to the time next year when this musical group will be able to perform again. 44. Janie! If you are a member of the A Cappella Choir, a senior girl, and know how to sing, it's a cinch you will be chosen as a member of the Senior Sextet, provided you have one of the six best voices and are willing to prac- tice hour after hour. The Senior Sextet is a new activity of the Vocal Music Department, initiated at the beginning of the school year by Director Russell Harrison. In addition to furnishing entertainment at assemblies, this group of girls also entered the district solo and en- semble contest held this year at Lebanon. Here the hours of hard work paid dividends, the girls received a one, which is the highest rating a group can obtain. yi. add Six junior girls devoted themselves to hours of prac- ticing and memorizing to form successfully the Iunior Sextet, another new division of the Vocal Music De- partment of Eugene High. Under the watchful eye of Mr. Harrison the girls slave and slave for the ultimate goal of being the Senior Girls Sextet come next fall. The activities of this new group follow along the same lines as the Swing Choir and Senior Sextet including singing at school programs and for various city organi- zations. The top rating which the Iunior Sextet received at the district solo and ensemble contest is standing evidence of their accomplishment as a newly organized group.
