SENICDR CLASS
CDFFICER
For all of us our senior year has been a
lot of fun-that above everything else. But
with school affairs under our guidance we
discovered many new responsibilities, too.
The planning and work that went into
dances, assemblies, and club activities made
tliem particularly ours this year. No, most
of us wouldn't trade our membership in
the senior class of Eugene High for any'
thing in the world - except maybe a
diploma.
lt seems a long time ago now that we
first entered these "white gleaming portals".
XVe will never forget the millions of faces
that stared up at us as we sat crammed into
the balcony and struggled through the
Alma Mater for the first time. But we
quickly lost our greenness when we pre-
sented a class tale.nt assembly and a spring
dance to welcome the incoming soplis.
Keith Stenshoel was elected class president:
Don Burgraff was vice-president: Shirley
Gillilan served as secretary, and Rosemary
Beatty as treasurer.
Our in-between year was distinguished
by the presentation of two successful dances.
"lXlistletoe Magicu was a semi-fonnal, Yulef
tide event. 'l he -lunior-Senior Prom featured
a south-sea theme, i'Tabu". "Cece" An-
drus was class president for our junior year:
Cecil Daniel, vice-president: Don Ford.
secretary: and Dorothy Robertson. treas-
urer.
flello Uleelx will be remembered for its
schedule niixups, and clever tags used as
admission to noon entertaimnent and the
weekend "stag" dance.
After the confusion of the first weelt of
school, we settled down Cas much as any
senior ever doesl to regular classes. In
social problems we argued labor-manage-
ment problems one day and the issue of
short skirts versus the "new look" the next.

IU I R CLASS
CDFFICER
Under the guiding hands of the friendly
and understanding class advisors, Mrs. Wil-
mot, and Nr. Burch, the '-i9er's have
completed a most successful year.
VV ith four very able leaders the junior
class has shown the rest of the school their
capabilities in carrying out their large share
of school activities, and have displayed that
kind of executive ability, that makes for
action, and dependability in school events.
Bex Griffith, good-natured president of
the class, with the help of his efficient
cabinet, Dick Bray, vice president, Jackie
Lewis, secretary, and Dolores Clark, treas-
urer, succeeded in making our Junior class
one of the best in recent Eugene High
School history.
With Myrna Carroll, as chairman, and
the efficient committee heads, Lois Taylor,
decorations, Howard Myers, entertainment,
Gene Early, refreshments, jo Anne Davis,
publicity, 'lean Crakes, patrons, and Byron
Baker, cleanup, the Iuniors made the lun-
38
h, R. Griffith, D. Bray.
ior-Senior Prom one ofthe most outstanding
events on the '47-'48 social calendar. E
T he theme of the Prom, chosen by the
committee, was indeed unique, and the
traditional farewell to the seniors left many
fond memories.
Although numerous difliculties made it
impossible to hold the traditional Junior
Dance, the class came thru with an as-
sembly that entirely made up for the lack
of a class dance. The theme was Eugene
High School history and was one of the
cleverest assemblies presented during this
last year. Through the hard work of Phil
Newman, chainnan ol' the assembly, and
his committee, consisting of Burt Carlson,
Judy Chapman, Bill Lockyear, Eunice
Miller, and Marilee VVilliams, it was pos-
sible to present this amusing program.
A class full of vim and vigor, always
in the middle of things, the Iuniors include
many outstanding individuals. Shining
examples of these personalities are: Mar-
vin Webster, vice president of the Student
Body who won first place in extempor-
aneous speaking at the Lindfield Speaking
contest, the two debate teams, Howard
hlyers-Pat Vllasson, Larry Bell-Nancy O'-
Connor who tieal for first place along with
our two senior teams at Linlielal. in .lunior
Division Debate.
