The Hidden Valley Chapter of the National Honor Society was organized in Estes Park in April 1959. The requirements for membership in the society are that the student must achieve at least a B average or higher and maintain that average throughout his high school career; he also must make a cutting score on a personality rating scale in order to be recommended by die faculty. Jsjl ,%@rt ? Modern Music Masters, founded in 1950, is a national honorary society which recognizes outstanding musicians. It is an inactive organization which is designed to give merit to those who qualify. Members are selected for outstanding work in the music field, and for their attitude, learning, and progress in the field of music. Candidates must have at least a C average, and be members of band or chorus, or some dependent form of either one. Pins are given the new members of the organization. The annual dinner was held at Timberline Restaurant. 34 STUDENT COUNCIL This year's Student Council carried out many duties under the capable direction of the executive committee which consisted of Steve Smersh, president; Diane Hunter, vice president; Ronnie Pletcher, secretary-treasurer; and Jim Roby, parliamentarian. Some of the many duties of the Student Council are scheduling social functions, setting up committees such as a poster committee to O.K. posters to be put up in the halls, and a cleanliness committee to conduct a Help Keep Our School Clean campaign. 35 PEF CLUB The Pep Club is always there to boost the Bobcats on to victory. This year the Pep Club initiated twenty eight freshmen who went through two days of fun with initiation, and then were honored at a dance. Among the other activities of the club this year were; decorating for home games, Homecoming bonfire, and a dinner and dance given in honor of the football and basketball boys. They also sponsor the drill team, a newly organized club. The drill team performed at several home basketball games. The Girls' Athletic Association is an extra-curricular organization with a capacity for promoting and sponsoring girls’ sports. It is especially beneficial to girls who wish to contine participating in athletics after participation is no longer required at school. Girls with good health in grades 9-12 are eligible to become members of G.A.A. PEP BAND Active and participating in pep assemblies and games, the Estes Park School pep band did a fine job this year. Under the direction of Mr. John Wiliamson, they gave their untiring efforts toward boosting enthusiasm on game days. Although Mr. Williamson was busy many times, the oep band, on their own, brought their instruments and played whenever they were needed. DANCE BAND The EPHS dance band has accomplished many projects this year. They have played for Rotary Club, school assemblies and on any other occasion when someone needed lively music. In 1960, the dance band members participated in two important events by which they raised money for their identical jackets: one was selling candy to people of the community and the other was the joint sponsoring of the Daton Boys' Choir which gave a program on April 15. KING - KOB CINK QUEEN - SHIRLEY LAMBERT V v l0 J Everyone enjoyed dancing at Grovenor's Inn after the banquet at the American Legion. 51 PURPLE WHITE DAY The year passed, then came Purple and White Day, honoring the outstanding students this year. The two outstanding seniors who received the American Legion Award for Citizenship were Jim Roby and Karen Stopher. Jane Walker was awarded a certificate of merit for outstanding scholastic and organizational work. Linda Duncan was honored with a trophy for being the safest high school driver.
