States Pep Club had approximately forty members during the 1956-57 school year. Twenty-two of these members were newly accepted after the annual pep club initiation. Officers governing pep club were: President, Janice Taylor; vice president, Linda Duncan; secretary. Marge Gorman; treasurer, Kay Phillips; and student council representative, Barbara Ebert. The annual pep club initiation began on September 26, with a pep club tea, when the candidates learned who their big sisters” were. Two days of comical costumes and antics followed the tea. A slumber party for forty-one girls was held at the Gus Gorman home after the first day of initiation. A formal initiation and dance climaxed the two days of ’’survival of the fittest. Many long hours were spent in the halls of EPHS hanging crepe paper and posters, to help promote school spirit. Meetings were held once a week to plan for these hall decorations as well as to discuss uniforms, cheers, pep club assemblies, pep rallies, and team send-offs. Something new was added to the pep club maneuvers this past year. A color guard, composed of eight girls, was organized for each home basketball game.
