Patricio Perolfo researches her science in Mi- gronr Ed 1 ■ Studying in a New Language ESL is Q shelrered English doss for language minoriry srudenrs, said Mr. Jonu Juarez . Here in this ar- mosphere rhey can learn rhe basic literacy skills. This year ' s ESL doss hod o variety of different notionolities. For example, students from Polond, Lebanon, Mexico, El Salvador and olso Vietnom were in the doss. Ja- vier Gomez soid, When I first got involved in ESL, I didn ' t think much of it, but now I con really see the good it did for me , Angelica Lopez soid, ESL was helpful to me mainly in developing my reading skills and communicoting with others ' Estoncio also had o program to help those students whose fomilies were agriculturally employed. This program was Migrant Ed. headed by Ms. Isobelle Venson The sru dents were involved in after school study sessions to help meet their educational needs. Students could get individuol help not only with their school work but also academic ad- visement or they could just work on social skills if needed. Carol Aguiar soid, I love it. It helped me with my schoolwork and also helped me prepare for col- lege. Low- son) in rhe Dining Room Stagecraft Jusr exactly who ore those stu- dents behind the scenes in dromo prduction, anyway These students take o doss colled stogecroft, taught by Mrs. Con- stance Cassody, which involves building and pointing the scenery and working with lights and ot het technicol ospects of production. As Amy Young described it: Mrs. Cassody asks you to moke, for instonce, o dining room, and then you get to decide how the room should look. It ' s very creative,- that ' s what i like about stagecraft; creativity. Joson Goddord enjoyed sroge- crofr because you get to build things and point them. Other students enjoyed stagecraft for simpler reasons. All my friends ore in it, ' sold Henry Vondoorn with o shrug. One great thing about stage- craft is rhor you get to leave the dossroom whenever you wont, said Lee Queener wirh a grin. Drome
