CROP ' S Got A New Name But It Doesn ' t Change The Game Coosriine Regional Occuporionol Program (ROP), formerly known os CROP, was port of o srorewide pro- gram providing service ro high school srudenrs and odulrs. Priority was given ro seniors, next come ju- niors, anyone who was 16, and even odulrs could rake dosses through ROP. The job-troining program offered through the Deportment of Educo- tion gave the students a chance to explore potentiol coreer choices. They hod the opportunity to see if the field of occupation they were interested in was reolly the best choice, Mrs. Joan Palmer, who ton the program at Estoncio, sold, An im- portant reason for taking on ROP course is thot it gives students mar- ketable skills. After taking on ROP course, stu- dents said that it mode it eosier to find a job, and they generolly hod a storting salary higher than minimum wage. Students also received five to ten credits per semester for partici- pormo. A new class was offered second semester called Security Alarm Sys- tems Installer, for which students hod to be 18 ro get the necessary securi- ty cleornoce. The new ROP is olwoys offer- ing new experiences.
