Their emphasis was more on personal records rhon ream victories becouse there was a gener- al feeling of a lock of varsity depth The biggest problem was trying to get more people out for the sport, said John Beth For those that joined the team, a typical workout consisted of warm- ups, then sprints and speed work for short distance runners, and o long run for those in long distance. After their workout, runners worked on their personal techniques. Sprint- ers practiced getting out of their storting blocks fast, relay members worised on passing the batons, ond disropice runners practiced poce ond speed techniques. Meon while, jumpers and hur- dlers were trying to perfect their form and speed, Stephanie Urrea, o hurdler, de- scribed the hurdle group os very close and high-spirited, Other events in track included the pole vault, shot put, and discus, Pole- voulter Scott Chesebro said, My biggest achievement was to be the Deach Cities champion lost yeor.
