Drion Thomos, Quinn Toering, Down Ton, Luan Tool, Moyo Torres, Edilio Torres, Tonio Torribio, Michael Trourman, Heather Trujillo, Luz Truong, Huong Tsoi, John Turpen, Richord Uribe, Elizoberh Veil, Amy For years, Yourh Ambassadors of America have been trying ro lessen rhe strained relations betv een the United States and Russia by using the leaders of the future: children. This organization sponsored o Youth Summit Between Russian end American children in rhe spring of 1988. They chose two high school students from eoch state except Cali- fornia, from which they tooK four. One of rhe four chosen was Arielle Lowson. The Youth Ambossodor orgonizo- rion screened many applicants, so as to pick those they thought to be most suitable for this imporronr task, and Lowson was one of the select few Lowson said she applied because she was concerned about the prob- lems between the two countries ond the possibility of nuclear wor. By going, she hoped to make more people owore of the importance of world peace and perhaps bring new hope to that cause. The students from America were met by their Russian counterparts and travelled to Helsinki, for a two- day briefing on protocol. Then they traveled ro Moscow, Leningrad, and two smaller cities in rhe country. Along the woy, they stopped to visit several schools ond hospirols, and met with a few Russion delegates. During the visit, the students talked about possibilities for creating world peace. Lowson pointed out that, people think it isn ' t possible or realistic, but you hove to work at something ro moke it happen.
