5'l.Vl.iilIll:il:jlLI3 If!!!-it WIEESEUUULUEU 'UE DU Esperanza's Freshman Football team, coached by Dave Stout, started off the season with three big wins over Cypress, Los Alamitos, and Pacifica. According to Stout, this young freshman team was hard working and strong. However, freshman football, just like any other team, had its weak points. 'Coming in and being faced with new exper- iences, they struggled to play as a unit, ex- plained Stout. Being new and inexperienced, the season resulted in some key injuries and a season record of four wins and six losses. Although the season did not turn out as ex- pected, the team had some outstanding play- ers. Quarterback Danny lVlondragon is one of the best athletes l've seen in my five years of coaching freshman football, continued Stout. 0ther players, such as Steve lvlelkerson, Ben Pinkertin, and Joe Shim also played well, and will do even better when they reach the varsity level.
