lllllUil'l'Ill As the century reaches its half-way mark, our interest centers on what fifty years have meant in the history of Atmore,. We learn that lust before 1900 the name Williams Station had been changed to Atmore in honor of C. P. Atmore, general passenger agent for the L. and N. Railroad. The population of the town was three hundred, there were three stores and two churches here. Atmore, in l950, is a thriving city with a population of seven thousand. lt is proud of its good schools and churches, attractive homes, civic organ- izations, and its variety of business interests. The citizens of our city are always eager to promote any activity that adds to our happiness or in- creases our opportunities for advancement, they arevever mindful of their youth. Because we know we are very fortunate to live in or near Atmore, we say, To you, City of Atmore, in deep appreciation for your decency, your friendliness, and your never failing interest in us, we dedicate to you, this volume of the AtmoraIa.
