There were several close games such as the one point victory over Central Catholic in double overtime. Other tough opponents were Riverbank and Patterson who were defeated by a slim margin. The Varsity also did well in the Ceres Tournament by taking second. The team's only Senior guards Danny Keyser and Brian Sharp led the team with outstanding seasons. Coach Steve French noted that Junior Bill Burke was the most consistent player on the team and earned All-Tournament recognition at Riverbank, while Danny Keyser and Sophomore forward Tony Vrh were selected for the Ceres All-Tournament Team. Tony Vrh led the Cougars in scoring, such as the 23 points during the Patterson game, while Bill Burke led in rebounding, Danny Keyser, in assists, and Brian Sharp, in steals. 24 VARSITY BASKETBALL

Netters Prove Their Merit 1979 marked the best season on record for Escalon's Varsity Volleyball team. The Varsity had a 13-6 season, while the Junior Varsity closed with a 10-6 record. In league standings, both teams were 6-4. The Varsity team came in third behind Livingston and Patterson. The JV's tied for second with Hughson with Livingston again coming in first. Elected Most Valuable Varsity Player was Linda Rampoldi with 41 ace serves and 177 points while serving. Diane Bradley was Most Inspirational with 69 down spikes. Susan Hyden was chosen Most Improved. Linda Rampoldi and Wendy Middleton were named to the All-League team. Diane Bradley was chosen for the All- League Honorable Mention team. Eloise Hollaway was Most Valuable Player of the JV team. Sheila Packer was Most Inspirational and Shawna Burch was Most Improved. 4.
