Cubs Hold Their Breath in Close Season The Cubs finished a close season, in which the championship was undecided until the very last game, with a 5-1 league record. Coach Mike Backovich repeatedly said that this was one of the best clubs he had ever coached. The team's success was often due to the efforts of Mark Franceschetti, Dave Giuntoli, Lawrence Mendoza, Neil Hodgson, Henry Bartelink, Brian Greer, and outstanding player Ed Nunes, who gained over a thousand yards, breaking school records. Cubs Enjoy Great Season The Escalon Freshman Cubs finished the season with an outstanding 6-1 record. The cubs showed an abundance of talent. Mr. Arellano described his team as being small, firey and aggressive, and they're all really willing to learn and to play. Averaging about 3 touchdowns a game, they showed a promising future for the varsity team of 78. Dan Keyser (4) throws a pass to a receiving Cougar.
