Cubs Hold Their Breath in Close Season The Cubs finished a close season, in which the championship was undecided until the very last game, with a 5-1 league record. Coach Mike Backovich repeatedly said that this was one of the best clubs he had ever coached. The team's success was often due to the efforts of Mark Franceschetti, Dave Giuntoli, Lawrence Mendoza, Neil Hodgson, Henry Bartelink, Brian Greer, and outstanding player Ed Nunes, who gained over a thousand yards, breaking school records.
