Knock Out Rallies Raise 77 Spirit Stand-out rallies were the trademark of the 1977 Pep Squad, led by a new advisor, Mrs. Christine Crain. The 50's rally featuring Fonzie, Richard Cunningham, Laverne, and Shirley was a sensation, backed up by unique public address announcements and male cheerleaders. Students participated by dressing in the 50's style. The squad also created several new events for the students to get involved in such as the spirit flag, spirit plaque, and 50's week. In addition, they sold spirit ribbons for home games, and spirit socks. Mrs. Crain felt really thrilled to work with this outstanding squad. Varsity Yell Leaders (1): TOP ROW: Shirley Blanco. Crutches Become Standard Equipment Injuries held back this year's dominant offensive players Bob Franceschetti, who, along with Matt Sutter, was on crutches for two weeks. John Casey also had hip trouble but was soon playing again. Cougar varsity standouts were guard and linebacker John Casey, guard and linebacker Chris Klessens, middle guard Jerry Fuller, fullback Matt Sutter, quarterback Bob Franceschetti, and tailback Jerry Bartelink. Franceschetti and Bartelink in particular were an excellent team at completing a pass. In spite of long hours of practice, the teammates were unable to defeat their tough TVL opponents such as Linden and Riverbank, although Hughson was defeated at our Homecoming game.
