encounter, thus ensuring a tie for first place in their division. In the P.S.A.L. championship playoffs, the Dutch- men reached the serni-finals, defeating unbeaten Morris Q58-52J and highly-regarded Jefferson Q55- 47J along the way. Opposing George Washington High School in the consolation game for third place Erasmus prevailed, 89-63, and ran up the highest score in the tourney. When the time came for players to be selected to fill berths on various all-star teams, Erasmus cagers placed extremely well. Freifeld, Yoselowitz, and Johnny Pelkaus were chosen on many of the ballots sponsored by local papers. Not to be outdone by the veterans, the Junior Varsity fought their way to a 9-1 season. High scorers for the young Dutchmen were Ronnie Snow and Bob Lawrence. It was indeed a rewarding season for both teams and their followers. Under the inspiring leadership of co-captains Lew F reifeld and Bob Sommer, and the astute tutoring of Coach Bernie Kirsner, our hoopsters compiled a 19-3 record which was quite an improvement over last yearis 10-10 slate. The season was an exciting one, highlighted by a thrilling home and home duel with arch-nemesis Wingate. In the first bout, at Wingate, Lew Frei- feld's 28 points were not quite enough to offset the output of the Generals, Wynn and Brown, and the Dutchmen succumbed, 67-65. At home, our team, led by the fine play of Freifeld and Joel Yoselowitz, avenged their previous loss in an unbelievable 71-70

As early as the first game, when the Dutchmen squeaked through With a one-touchdown triumph, it became apparent that this team did not measure up to last year's City Champs. However, the Buff and Blue, competently led by all-city stars George Wichelns and Dan Kaufold, performed Well and forced some of the best teams in the city to work for their victories. The year,s zenith Was the annual Midwood game, which saw an inspired Erasmus eleven upset the favored Middies. The nadir occurred when the team started losing and it became evident that some Erasmians Were fairrweather fans.
