L ST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the graduating class of February 1942, in order to ease the agonies of student life, establish painless education, insure professorial subjugation, pro- vide for the student Welfare, promote the General Organization, and secure the blessings of knowledge to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this last will and testament for the existing students of Erasmus: We herewith provide an inexhaustible fund insuring free chapel seats for all freshmen in the ensuing years. To the sophomores twho'd doubtlessly take them anyhowl, we abandon the freshmen. To the juniors we leave the startlingly sudden realization that they are almost seniors. To the seniors, who have harboured an aversion to education ever since they worked their way through kindergarten, we give permission to succumb to that sense of melancholy which seizes us all at the sight of the doors slowly closing behind us. To the Mathematics Department we leave our regret that we CAN'T leave Maxwell Rosenlicht. To the Girls' Gym Department we leave a new course in Physical Education which excludes the necessity for daily donning of those gymsuits and sneakers. To the Boys' Gym teachers with the overdeveloped right arms we leave a metronome provided with a loudspeaker, for beating out the rhythm for those excruciating exercises, We turn over to Mr. Stratton the patent for our latest invention-a giant machine which, on being fed several reams of paper and a gallon of ink, turns out seven thousand perfect programs within five minutes. To Mrs. Edgell we leave several thousand clamoring bellfels. To Miss Mastin we leave a dozen gold medals to be awarded to those students of the next hundred years who can memorize-or even pronounce- the name of her pet dog-Albertine Twinkle Duchess of Tiffany Countess of Whitethorn and Snapdragon Marquese of Bobolink-Sometimes Lytton Scratchey- Al for short. To Miss Stanton we leave our checked hat and compound microscope, to be employed in continuance of our search for that individual who, in the course of the four years, has never been absent, never been late, never cut class, nor ever applied for an infirmary pass on false pretenses. Done in conspiracy by the Reluctant Consent of those remotely interested the Twenty-seventh Day of Ianuary the Year of our Lord One-thousand Nine hundred and Forty-two whereof We have hereunto subscribed our Names ................

Man's poor self still must crave The serene and ultimate sight, And must in desire outbrave The dull heart, the Weak body, the night. Through the long dusk of his dreams A Wonder flooding of light Far oft, sets a mark for the journey: And he takes the path as it gleams Along fields of stubble and blight, Past Doubt dwelling dark in his bitter cave, And toils on, footsore yet ever unweary With rain-Worn mantle and knotted stave. From Commemoration Poem The Foundin of Erasmus Hall November 17. 1787 By MILDRED C. MCNEAL-SWEENEY
