LeT us Train our spoTlighT on The pasT Tour years aT Erasmus Hall and recall To our minds some oT The sporTing highlighTs ThaT have 'helped To make our sTay aT This Old Gray School a series oT happy rememfbrances. The maioriTy oT The class was assigned To The Annex, which seemed aT This Time To be The TarThesT ouTposT oT civilizaTion. We had liTTle chance To parTicipaTe in school aThleTics and ThereTore conTenTed ourselves wiTh our inTramural games. The boys won Their numerals and The girls became hockey and baskeTball players. How- ever, in The meanTime, There were big doings aT The main buildingl The TooTball Team, which in i932 had had To Share The TooTball ciTy championship wiTh Theodore Roose- velT High School, was deTermined To again reach The Top. They capTured The Brooklyn Championship wiThouT much Trouble, buT Then wenT down in The ciTy championship playoTT To Flushing High School. Sid Luckman dashed 75 yards To a Touchdown in The TirsT guarTer, all To no avail. The swimming Team, riding on The cresT oT SixTeen con- secuTive vicTories, annexed The Brooklyn championship and Then sank beTore The ciTy champion, The Ear Rockaway Team, aT Columbia Pool. ln Eebruary we enTered The main building. We appeared as very green Freshmen and were TreaTed accordingly by The upper classmen. We conTined our aThleTic acTiviTies To cheering The excepTionally Tine Teams ThaT The Erasmus coaches were Turning ouT. We waTched our Lacrosse Team win iTs TirsT ciTy championship by Trounc- ing our old rival, Manual. lvlr. Badain'S baskeTeers perTormed well and managed To gain Ten vicTories. ff? Senior ArisTa had been holding ouT on us. Tom BenneTT and Alla Shainin were elecTed To STudenT Council. RoberT Levine promised Mr. Zimmerman an ice cream soda if he won an award in The New York Classical Club ConTesT. Bob goT SSO, buT Zimmy is srill waiTing. The Shainin whiz won a ciTy-wide vocabulary TesT in l.aTin. We realized suddenly ThaT in Two monThs we were going To be seniors. WHEN we wERE sEvEN We Took over The DuTchman and The Erasmian alTogeTher. Ted Goodchild ediTed our iournalisTic oTTeringg and Marcia l'leaTTer headed The Erasmian sTaTT. G. O. elecTions were TasT and Turious. We appreciaTed Jerry Blumberg, Elaine Pear, and l-lelen Howard aTTer The hubbub and The shouTing. Allan Names won a huge currenT evenTs bee. Senior ArisTa was suddenly in our hands. Bill l-loman, Alla Shainin, and Rickie Brown were doing nicely, Thank you. Qscar Brand was elecTed presidenT, noT only oT The school organizajrion, buT oT The Boro Coun- cil oT Pan-American Clubs. LesT we TorgeT The Arch PaTrol, remember Al Napoli's superlaTive job? l.esTer McPherson was busy wiTh The Service Squad. Wl-lEN WE WERE EIGHT: The new Old Building sTood ouT in all iTs glory, iokes abouT The P.W.A. workers having gone Their way. The new walk across The Campus shone brighTly in all iTs graniTe elegance aTTer our noble G. O. PresidenT had chrisTened iT wiTh The aid oT a speech and The Track Team. Elaine Pear ediTed The Erasmian. We had anoTher and Tinal elecTion. Torn BenneTT, Muriel Goodman, and Alla Shainin were our Senior Class OTTicers. lT was spring. The campus was in bloom. The grass was green and weT and sweeT, The chapel dim and s+iIl. Desiderius read his iron words as we passed slowly Through The arch wiTh measured Tread. SeniliTy? No, raTher The beginning.

The Tairer sex had become guiTe experT aT The game oT Tield hockey which They pracTiced each SaTurday aT ProSpecT Park. An all school hockey Team challenged Packer InsTiTuTe and amazed everyone buT Themselves by coming ouT on The long end oT a 2-O decision. I-Ielen I-lines gained The hockey capTaincy oT our grade. The TooTball Team was noT as impressive as ThaT oT The pre- ceding year. The Team was Trounced by Madison and played Two scoreless Ties wiTh Manual. The swimming Team enjoyed anoTher successTul season. They again won The Brooklyn Championship only To go down in The ciTy wide TiTIe race, This Time deTeaTed by Richmond I-Iill. The Erasmus cagemen had a successTul season. They Tailed To win The Brooklyn crown which many experTs had predicTed would be Theirs. We were now sophisTicaTed upper sophomores. We waTched a new Team arise upon The Erasmus sporT horizon, The Tencing squad. The Team baTTTled Through Brooklyn opposiTion and was acclaimed uncrowned champion. The Tennis Team made a good showing in P.S.A.I.. ranks. A new sporTing era dawned aT Erasmus! Previous To This Time Erasmian Teams had won one ciTy championship and had been runner up no less Than Tour Times since our class had enTered The school. The TooTbaIl Team wenT Through one oT The mosT disas- Trous seasons in iTs hisTory. The baskeTeers, hampered by unusually small players, compiled a record OT Two vicTories and eighT deTeaTs. The swimming Team, however, broke The iinx by winning The Brooklyn Championship Tor The TourTh Time in a row and Then wenT on To share The ciTy crown wiTh George WashingTon High School. The girls nexT eIecTed DoroThy Beniamin as Their baseball capTain and Eleanor La Sasso Their baskeTball capTain. Inga Olsen became The TirsT Temale member oT The class To pass her Senior I.iTe Saving TesTs. Eencing was Temporarily banned by The P.S.A.L. board.
