The eight reactors which drive the ship belong to the men of the Reactor Department. Within this department, specialized divisions handle the diverse aspects involved in maintaining and operating the complex propulsion system. RCE Division controls the everyday operation of the plants and maintains all reactor electrical systems. RL Division minimizes reactor corrosion and controls radiation levels through extensive laboratory analysis. RM Division operates and maintains the mechanics of the reactor system. RT Division serves as a training divi- sion, refreshing the knowledge of new personnel and preparing them for qualification in the system. The four plants, each consisting of two reactors, make up REA-1, REA-2, REA-3 and REA-4 Divisions. Qualifying as a watchstander in the Reactor Department comes only after months of schooling, self-study and on the job training. Once qualified, watchstanders in the Reactor Department constantly update and add to their knowledge of the system. 1 I I I I PRIIPJ LSI IIN PI.LXII'I' I I I I : I 1 I 1 I I ll TNI! 3 ll I 'Hill I I YNUU I YRYIAL CLD II u um: -...in . ,. .D ii ...- , R . ,LL .
