For most of ENTERPRISES crewmembers, the In- tegrated Operational Intelligence Center QIOICJ is a mys- terious place, known only as a locked door on the O3 level. Behind this locked door takes place the major portion of the administration and control of the air intelligence functions of the ship and air wing. In an era where speed and extreme accuracy are vital to the ship's operations, IOIC provides that speed and accuracy as well as rapid retrieval of stored intelligence data. IOIC is responsible for the collection, processing, evaluation and dissemination of intelligence affecting the operations of the ship! air wing team. Among the functions of IOIC are the coordination of the briefings of pilots and air crewmen with Air Operations, Meteorology and other operational centers, conducting intelligence briefings as appropriate and ,preparing intelligence graphics to aid mission planning. A 'major portion of lOIC's responsibil- ity lies in the evaluation and interpretation of aerial pho- tography and electronic intelligence received by the ship. The intelligence-gathering task of IOIC can be carried out day and night, in all sorts of weather. The system is computerized to allow storage of intelligence data received for retrieval and application at a later date. Throughout the deployment, IOICS intelligence- gathering operation contributed highly to the successful completion of hundreds of combat missions flown by Air Wing FOURTEEN pilots. Processing and interpreting thousands of feet of film provided by air wing recon- naissance aircraft, the men of IOIC provided both pre- strike and post-strike photography for the air wing, ship and embarked staff.
