We. the graduating class of 1957 from Ensley High, are happy to complete our courses within the walls that we entered four years ago for there is a spirit and a tradition that lingers and permeates each nook and corner, and we feel that we have helped to establish it. Ensley High School was established in 1901. with a principal and three teachers. Since that year hundreds of students have gone out from this school to take their places in colleges, vocations, and jobs. The records of achievement which they have left behind and the measures of success which have come to them, Indicate that Ensley High School was and is an institution of learning of which any community might be proud to call its own. Yes. Ensley High School stands as a monument to education. Figuratively speaking, we may say that its protecting walls have been a shield against the ill winds of illiteracy; its doors have opened the way to learning; its windows have let in the light of knowledge and truth; its roof has withstood the storms of intolerance. Within its walls its warmth has served as a friendly hearth, radiating trust and friendship among students and teachers. And so - in appreciation to all who have helped to maintain E. H. S. To the administration which sponsored our education... To every teacher who has taught in the classrooms... To the principals who have guided us... To all other school personnel... To the parents and patrons who have inspired us... To this community which has supported us... To every wholesome and uplifting influence which has helped to make Ensley High School what it has been and is... we dedicate this 1957 Jacket. And So to These • • •and ... to the Ensley Student Not Only for 1957...but for. . . YESTERDAY. .. and TODAYTO EVERY STUDENT WHO HAS PLAYED THE GAME . . . in the STANDS. . . on the FIELD... or in the GYM . . .WHO HAS PERFORMED ON THE STAGE. . . or ATTENDED ENSLEY HIGH SCHOOL THIS THE 1957 JACKET IS DEDICATEDDR. Grace's senior year at Ensley held a new adventure which she will always remember, for during this year she gained a "sister," Mazusu Shimazaki, better known to us as "Suzi." Suzi, a student from Japan, came to America on a Foreign Field Service Scholarship. In living with Grace, Suzi has gained a grand sister and a wonderful view of the American way of life.THE ANNUAL STAFF EDITOR Anne Bowles ASSISTANT EDITOR Linda O'dell CIRCULATION MANAGER Carolyn Cooper BUSINESS MANAGER Carolyn Thompson TYPIST Polly Estes ASSISTANT BUSINESS MANAGER Jo Lyster THE ANNUAL STAFF First row: Betty Sue Carter, Joan Traywick, Joyce Baskerville, Carolyn Cooper, Beverly Gunter, Jo Lyster, Carolyn Thompson.
