h Ketirement This year marks the retirement of Mr. Charles F. Murphy, a teacher of mathematics at English High for a number of years. Mr. Murphy was graduated from BLS 1912, and Holy Cross 1916. After serving in World War I, Mr. Murphy joined the Boston School System, teaching at Charlestown High and Boston Latin, before being app ointed to English in December, 1924. Charlie has been a legend at EHS for more than a generation, and any boy who has passed under his benevolent tutelage will hardly for- get him. Mr. Murphy ' s retirement creates a gap in the teaching ranks which will be most diffi- cult to fill. Mr. Charles F. Murphy Mr. Robert G. Simmons retired tliis Januan, ' after a lengthy service at English High School. Mr. Simmons was graduated from Boston Col- lege with an A.B. in 1919, and received his Master ' s degree from the same school in 192.3. An accomplished scholarly gentleman, and a re- nowned athlete in his own right, Mr. Simmons served our school from the time of his appoint- ment in September 1923, as a teacher of English, until his retirement, in many capacities. In addi- tion to coaching the Golf Team, he served as Faculty Adviser to the Senior Year Book for many years. To Mr. Simmons and Mr. Murphy we wish many years of contented retirement. Mr. Robert G. President ' s Message Mario M. Caporale As the Class of 1965 completes its graduating year and leaves the shelter of the great English High School, it is fitting that each member pause to consider his accomplishments and future plans. We entered as eager freshmen in the annex, full of ambition and hope. As sophomores, we transferred to the main building and were determined to make good our goals. In our three years here under the fine guidance and teachings of our headmaster. Dr. Malone, and our many teachers, we have accomplished our aim; that is, to graduate. Some of us will continue our education at one of the many insti- tutions of higher learning. Before us lie years of study, more difficult than we have ever experienced. But we will not complain, for it is clear to us that anything worthwhile can only be accomplished through perseverance. Some of us will immediately enter upon the business world. A world in which today the competition is greater than ever before; a world into which thousands of high school and college students enter yearly. Others of us will enter the military service, where there are un- limited possibilities for advancement. Whichever path we may take, there will be problems which will confront us; but let our desire to succeed be the incentive which will drive us on to greater efforts and greater success. No matter how successful we may become, let us not forget our school motto: Be Clean, Be Square, Be Courteous.
