COMMANDING OFFICER COMMANDER JAMES R. HOGG OCTOBER 1972- James Robert Hogg was commissioned an Ensign in June 1956 upon graduation from the Naval Academy. Early sea duty tours included Gunnery Officer, Communications Officer, and Navigator of USS UNION (AKA-106), and Executive Officer and Navigator of USS FEARLESS (MSO- 442). From 1961 to 1963, he served as Aide and Flag Lieutenant to Commander Amphibious Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, followed by a tour as Operations Officer of USS ROBISON (DDG-12). In 1965, he reported to the Chief of Naval Operations for duty as Assistant Secretary to CNO for JCS MATTERS (OP-004S). After graduation in 1967 from the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama, he returned to San Diego as Executive Officer of USS KING (DLG-10). In 1969, he served as Operations Officer on the Staff of Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Flotilla NINE, and in 1970, he reported to Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, initially as Assistant Training and Readiness Officer and ultimately as Long Range Planning and Net Assessments Officer. Commander Hogg has one son, James McDERMOTT, who resides with him in Coronado, California.

COMMANDING OFFICER CAPTAIN JOSEPH J. PAULIS,JR. MARCH 1971-OCTOBER 1972 Joseph J. Paulis, Jr., graduated from Cornell University as an NROTC student and was commissioned an Ensign in February 1948. Captain Paulis has served in the following afloat commands since his commissioning: USS CONSOLATION (AH-15), USS CONWAY (DDE-507), Commanding Officer of LSM- 462, Commanding Offlcer of USS PENDER COUNTY (LST-1080), USS KEARSARGE (CVA-33), USS TOPEKA (CLG-8), Weapons Officer of USS COLUMBUS (CG-12), Commanding Officer of USS SHELTON (DD-790), Surface Warfare Officer on the Staff, Commander SIXTH Fleet, and Commander Destroyer Division THREE TWO TWO. Captain Paulis is married to the former Miss Laura Gay- dosh of Ithaca, New York, presently living in Coronado, California, and they have four children. Captain Paulis wears The Navy Commendation Medal, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, China Service Medal, Navy Occupation Medal, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal with three stars. Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for Vietnam, South Korean Presiden- tial Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, and the United Nations Service Medal.

EXECUTIVE OFFICER COMMANDER ROBERT L. STANFORD JANUARY 1972- DECEMBER 1972 Commander Robert L. STANFORD, USN enlisted in the Navy in December 1949, and subsequently attended Ari- zona State University. Upon graduation, he was com- missioned upon completion of OCS in October, 1 956. Prior to reporting as Executive Officer of USS ENGLAND in January 1972, Commander STANFORD completed a three year tour as Officer-in-Charge Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Philippines, Detachment Hong Kong, B.C.C. Commander STANFORD has served in the following afloat commands: USS NOTABLE (MSO-460), USS LOFBERG (DD-759), USS TAUSSIG (DD-760), Commanding Officer USS EXCEL (MS0 39), Executive Officer of the Military Sea Transportation Office, Inchon, Korea, NTDS Instructor at Fleet Anti-Air Warfare Training Center, Dam Neck, Va., and as Senior Logistics Advisor to the Vietnamese Navy, Vietnam. Commander STANFORD is married to the former Miss Ann H. HOLDEN of Baton Rouge, La. They have two children: Christopher (5) and Robert (2), and presently reside in El Cajon, California.
